How about pulling a hat out of a rabbit?

Postby Jelmo » Feb 12th, '06, 15:36

Hi!

Last night I woke up with an idea and I'd like to know what you guys think of it.

We all know about the 'And now.... I'll pull a white rabbit out of my black hat!'-trick.
I thought maybe as some kind of comedy-act I'd develop an effect where I pull a black top hat out of a (toy)rabbit?

I don't know HOW I could do this yet, but I first wanted to check what you guys think of such a trick.

Do you think it would get a laugh and it's a good trick or do you think it's just plain stupid? 8)

Oh if anybody thinks this would be a cool effect and knows how I could make it happen, PM me

Yes, and yes.
It sounds silly, it could be quite funny if used properly. Or if you wanted to go for a more bizarre angle, you could try pull a hat out of a real rabbit, with lots of blood etc. but that could be a bit disgusting.

A rabbit out of a top hat, okay. But a top hat out of a rabbit? I think you're probably looking at an internally fitted Tardis, really.

Nice idea, but not original I'm afraid :)

Men in Coats for one (two?) do it, and I have also seen several other peopel do something similar.

Men in Coats will of course be at Blackpool this year

Sorry pal

Not original, i have seen another rabbit being pulled out of another one

The performer creates an illusion where he gets a knife lies the rabbit on its back cuts it in the middle head down and pulls out another rabbit

depends how you perform this, it can look real good

Pulling A Rabbit From A Hat.

Postby Allen Tipton » Mar 7th, '06, 13:34

:) The performer Jags refers to was Horace Goldin. You'll see this in an old film which features various acts including Old Mother Riley.
Hat from Rabbit is really a spin off from another old gag. The magician produces, or takes from top pocket, a (rubber) dove. folds it and produces a silk from it.
Both gags good for a magicians but may only just get a laugh from lay people.
I once, many years ago, worked out an act in which I was dressed as a rabbit and produced little magicians from a top hat. Also lettuces (green spring flowers) It never got tried out but might have been a wow at Conventions.
There was a performer (it may have been FISM) some years back who performed dressed as a dove. Seriously. They did publish a pic of him.

As part of his whirlwind of magic routine, Horace Goldin took the rabbit from his Dog, not another Rabbit.

He started the routine doing hand shadows on a chinese pagoda type screen, producing first, a couple of doves. Then made teh shadow of a bunny, then a shadow dog, ate the bunny, which then turned into a real dog. He Put his puppy on a tray, sliced it open, and pulled out teh live bunny( by the ears, tut, tut!!) worse than that, he threw the bunny to a waiting assistant in the wings.
I think the film that this sequence is in, is called a night in london.

You will find that countless magicians have removed a hat from a bunny .
Just as a throwaway gag.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

if you want to do it yourself then i can visualise three ways:-

1) would use a gimmicked hat
2) would get you reported to the rspca.
3) a slieght variation were the rabbit is put into an empty box with a clear front and object produced from inside the rabbit
