NdFeB's

Anyone out there give me some tips on the use of NdFeB's with cards? Are they best inserted or waxed? How do you use them?

I have 1mm ones by the way...

Think I should not have used the proper name for them...

'PK's' are what I am rambling on about...

Are you talking about putting one into a card?

The best thing to do is shim the card rather than putting the PK in the card. That way you can use some much thinner material and insert it.

As mentioned, shimming is the ideal solution, however, very thin tempered stainless steel is very slightly magnetic too.

I am in the process of negotiations to sell shimming sheets (0.09mm) for this usage, and when I do, I will let you know.

The samples I've had are promising—the metal has a very low profile but a high attraction. It can also be slightly magnetised by proximity fluxing.

Neo magnets don't really come thin enough to be inserted into cards. The smallest thinnest ones I sell are about 0.7 - 0.8mm and are VERY fragile... they snap quite easily, and are relatively profiled when added to cardstock (I've tried it).

I am assuming the card is being gaffed to pick up metal objects? If so, the carbon-steel sheet I am looking into might just do it, but only light objects.

Watch this space... ;)

I would be interested to hear more about this sheet. 0.09mm seems incredible. I have been looking for a ferrous shim (it doesn't need to be magnetic itself), and have been using razor blades, which for what I use them for works fine, but I would still be very interested to hear more about the shim sheet. you mentioned. Is it for sale at NUMS?

It will indeed be on sale on NUMS.

I just checked, and I lied a little: It's actually 0.1mm. However, I will also be stocking 0.05mm (!!!) and 0.15mm.

0.05mm? Pah :D!

12µm! (which is 0.012mm if I figure correctly)

But unfortunately, it's aluminium.

Perhaps so... but it's not practical, I've already had samples at 0.005, and they are totally impractical! Workable sizes are as I mention above ;)
