Heirloom?

Postby ouch-kabibble » Mar 7th, '06, 17:10

I am just about to purchase heirloom, and the wallet (relatively expensive) and am wondering if it would be a waste of money. I am 14 years old, and I suspect the effect will mostly be used in close-up/mentalism shows if I purchase it. Is it really worth the money? I have read the reviews and am just about to buy, but I'd just like little kick up the backside to actually buy it. At my age, and type of performance would it be a worthwhile investment?

Thanks in advance.

The story refers to Uncle Charlie and timeline is early 1900's or thereabouts. In your case you might have to make him a Great Uncle or something like that to align with your own age. Of course, he could just be a distant ancestor with no relationship specified. The guys who developed Heirloom correctly state that you don't need to buy the Heirloom wallet as you might be able to find a suitable one at a lower price in a local store. The one supplied by Alakazam is a very good one and has additional features which make it useful for other effects but it's still a lot of money for a wallet.

Personally I'd say if you like the sound of Heirloom then buy it first and see how you'd fit the routine into what you do and then decide if you want to look locally for a wallet or go for the Alakazam one. I must admit, I looked in several stores and couldn't find anything even close and the prices of leather wallets were in the same area as the Alakazam one anyway.

If it's within your budget - I'd say go for it.
Heirloom was one of the first routines I started performing- those friends that have seen it still talk and ask about it, and they've seen a lot more effects since then.

As long as you can spin a yarn - involve people in a convincing story - a massive impact is practically guaranteed. You'd be amazed at the number of people who assume you've planted a subliminal suggestion!

I'd recommend the wallet too.

Enjoy!

I agree entirely with Silkenone. heirloom is a brilliant effect, and spectators are left with a weird, eerie feeling, where they're not sure if you've influenced them or if they simply got so involved in the story that what they felt was actually right. The wallet is well worth it, too.

Well, Ive got everything and am very very pleased. Brilliant in its simplicity, and perfectly suits a show I'm putting together (mindfudge). Highly reccomended! Just a quick question- is there an Heirloom forum? Thanks. :D

I dont know about heirloom forums but I do know that I carry the heirloom wallet around with me and use it as my normal wallet. I can deliver the effect when needed and I can also use the pics in a "get out of jail free" situation if a card trick S.N.A.F.U's.

The advantage to using my wallet as normal is that noone suspects its a set up wallet when I do the trick, they have seen me using it at the bar and do not suspect anything packing an even bigger punch to the effect.
