Hi

I was reading a article a couple of weeks ago about magicians and their
performances.
I am an English person living in Spain and have always been into magic and
have a very nice selection of trick now.
But mainly I feel I lack the confidence to go out and about to perform.
Eventually I would like to make money from magic.
Do you have any tips or advice in order for me to go on and make money or
what the best way is to do it??
Or if you have any early experiences that you would wish to share I would be
very grateful.
If you dont have answers do you know of anybody who will?

Thanks a lot for your help and information

Hi, Matt! I've been doing street and bar magic for about 3 years and at first I had very little confidence and had to be well oiled in order to perform! The way that I overcame this was to think to myself "Come on, Kai, your supposed to be a magician so just get on with it!" With this in mind I forced myself to approach people and I have to say that I'm really glad I did! Now I can approach people with no problems! I mean, what's the worst that can happen? They say no! If this happens I just say "Okay, thanks anyway!" Then I just go and find someone else to show off to! I mean this probably won't be the same for you, mate. It's just my personal circumstances. Anyway, I'm really banging on now but I hope I've helped you out!

Jus approach it with the confidence of being a master, start with easy kickers (as suggested elsewhere) reel them in and let thier enthusiasm feed your confidence.

Most of these people you will never see again so if a trick goes wrong you'll be remembered for 5 minutes but when it goes well you'll be remembered for a long long time.

Never try to force someone to watch only go for people who you have seen observing you perform to others as they are probably quite interested.

ALWAYS be yourself, do not shimmy up to someone trying to be the "Amazing Great Magini", that is for stage, be yourself ad use your magic as an extension of your personality and you'll soon find you are coping with it all very well. A fish out of water cant swim so dont try to do anything you're not comfortable with first.

And speaking english in Spain you are perfectly placed for summertime beach walking whereby you could amaze and amuse - maybe even pull - and u may end up havin a fair few drinks bought for you if you wander some of the bars at night.

As for doing it for money, well once you show yourself as being a benefit for a restaurant/bar you can talk to them about working the tables at night.

EDIT: Are there any magic clubs you can join, magic societies etc? See if you can hook up with a working cabaret magi and if you impress suitably you may find yourself getting those surplus bookings he cant do!

Bananafish are there any magical societies in Spain that you know of?
