Best Impromtu Card Tricks

Postby k88 » Mar 16th, '06, 00:28

This has probably been asked before, but I tried searching and I dont thin the searchis working because whatever I type in it says not matches to that criteria, or something along those.

Anyway straight to the cut.

What is the best Impromtu Card Tricks you would whip out?

I seem to keep showing colour changes such as erdnase, shapshifter, metamorphisis etc.

And Ambitious card, biddle trick, transpo, jokers wild and another simple trick where you cull it then hot shot cut it out. And usually my friends are there so its kinda hard if I want to perform it for someone else and remember 'never repeat a trick'

So apart from those what other good tricks are out there? And can you tell me where i can learn it?

I have all of Card College and I'm 1/4 way through 2. So if any good fast visual tricks in there can you tell me which chapter?

Thanks

Oh, okay thanks I'll do some research on that.

And I should of put this in my first post, but I'm looking for tricks that can be done standing up i.e. with no table, and I'm not really a fan of long tricks like Out of this world, where you count out 4 packets, count the cards in it, remeber it, shuffle them up, i deal 4 packets agen...you know what I mean.

Thanks

Dr Daley's Last Trick and Twisting the Aces are both done with the four aces in the hands. Otherwise, effects like Rapid Transit from the Royal Road to Card Magic are worth a look.

It is true that there are many effects that you can learn that fit with your specifications - however, with a good knowledge of the sleights involved in each, it isn't too difficult to come up with your own.

I imagine it's real satisfying, too.

I find that having a good knowledge of sleights doesn't really help when you trying to start with creating your own effects. You need to have a good enough imagination to come up with an idea of what the trick will achieve first. If you don't have an end to work to you'll struggle even if you know all of the sleights in the work.

My most notable creation is a colour changing back of a signed card routine, which is captured between the four jacks which also change colour.

Best impromptu card trick has to be the AC. I don’t think a close up routine is complete without it. It’s a bit like the magic colouring book for kid’s shows or a levitation for stage shows. You just shouldn’t perform without including one real classic. A simple card force with a novel reveal should not be over looked either.

TRIUMPH is a great impromptu trick.

I forgot that we were meant to be discussing impromptu card routines. I was shown a "Twisting The Aces" trick a while ago that I really like. It starts with an Ace thru 4 instead of aces to add some progression to the trick. The final climax is that one of the cards turns face down at the spectators request and when it's removed it's a card they thought of before the trick began. I hope to make a video of it soon.

AC is definitely a classic that should not be over looked. I agree with the Dr Daley trick too. I think stuff with signed cards is always good for impromptu work, it really makes them feel it's impromptu and no duplicates were involved.

Best Imprompto Card Tricks.

:) K88. If you like Stand Up Card Magic, what about the Diminishing Cards, 6 Card Repeat, 11 Card Trick, Torn & Restored Card? Buy a copy of Ken de Courcy's Cards In Cabaret( £7) and Stand Up Card Magic,(£6) Colin Linn; there is a sequel but can't remember its title. The late Joe Riding put out a brilliant 15 minute routine, 'I'll Will Teach U How'. Get hold of it. Note it's a routine not one trick. Ken de C also has 'Seven minute Card Act' (£5 from Eddie Burke.) And a Must is Ron Frost's Card Miracles (£31:50p) & yes, for the DVD fans there is a DVD with it.
Above all remember Somerset Maughan's quote ( he was a famous author!) " He asked me if I liked card tricks. I said no!. He showed me five".
Leave'em wanting more. Don't just jump in because someone says 'Show us a trick' Chris Dugdale advises making them wait "I'll show you something you'll never forget." Let 'em ask a couple of times. Then show them, leave the area (bar or toilet) and return 5 mins later. Do ONE encore if you must.

Best impromptu card trick for me would be Ambitious Card as that's the trick I always do first. Then I would probably do Biddle Trick but I haven't done that in a while.

When saying impromptu, do you mean no set-up at all? Or no gimmicked decks? Otherwise, I love Emerge Triumphant and my own Enveloped. Use them all the time!

I think this rule has exceptions. I always repeat the Ambitious Card routine. I make it up as I go along and they can never follow it. As long as the method changes from time to time, they won't know that you've altered the method and it will still work.

My favourite impromptu trick is 2 card monte. With good showmanship and 2 jokers I can make people go crazy with it.

A good ACR is a must for impromptu too i think.

I always get very good reactions with Topsy-Turvy cards by producing the selected card using a hot-shot cut. It's simple (almost self working in fact) and with presentation it can look impossible to the spec as they do all of the card shuffling so they think there's no opportunity to set up the cards.

I'd also agree with the Biddle Trick and the AC, although everyojne seems to do an AC - I often give this one a miss. I also like a card transpo or monte effect although not both together in the same routine.

Cannibal Kings(cards) is a good one, although you said that you are not a fan of long tricks.

Twins from the Ammar's card miracles vol. 3 is awsome, and not too long either. This is a very visual trick and it only uses four cards and is patterful/story based. All the cards change from all black, then to two black and two red, then back to all black, then to all red. After the trick they can even inspet the cards, there is nothing to hide or switch, it starts and ends clean.

This is not only one of my favorite impromtu tricks, but I get requests to do this all the time. I feel that some of my tricks are more amazing, but this one always seems to stick in their minds for some reason. It can be done standing, though you would need somthing to set the cards down on through out the trick. Maybe the spectators hand if you can trust them to not look.

some of the best impromptu effects i've seen have to be on Gregory Wilson's Card Stunts. Reset with a hook is definitely a mindblower, yet 100% impromptu. Boomerang Card of Death is a Killer, as is Pheonix Split pt. 1. this requires you getting the aces out before though, but doesn't take too long.
