Music - what does it mean to you

Postby Jordan C » Mar 15th, '06, 18:11

We all use music, in acts, in life etc.

I'm not talking about what music would you use in your show but what does music mean to you? Are there any tunes that hold special emotion? Why?

For me music is the be all and end all. Without music life is non existent as even our own hearts beat the rhythm of life. Most poignant tune for me is "Spread your Wings" by QUEEN, reminids me of darker childhood times when I wanted to Spread my Wings and fly away from it all.

How bout you lot?

Music is very special to me as I am also a musician, although I haven't played for several years at a serious level (played keyboards from junior school onwards).

I would much much prefer to listen to music than watch TV or read a book. I find that I can relax and just feel part of what I'm listening to.

I was a lifelong Queen fan myself but also liked most rock orientated music and am also a big fan of Bands like Rush, Asia, the Eagles and artists such as Satriani.

I can also equally listen to Abba and Eminem, to Strauss and Tchaikovsky.

I agree with you. How boring would life be without music? I play the piano and I love feeling of playing to people and people enjoying the music. I might steal one of Stevebo's Ideas and film me playing something on the piano (Well, I only have a keyboard) and cut it in and out eith some magic :D

i've grown up listening to Placebo nearly every other day. and i feel like the music/lyrics is a reflection on my own life (how coincidental!) but that may be just because i've listened to it all too much.
although recently, after i started learning to juggle (and more importantly to spin!) i've actually gotten quite into trance music. so hey, we can all have a little variety, it is after all "the spice of life"

As for me too, I couldn't take one day without music.
It gets me going or it helps me to relax.
- I play the electric guitar and when practising I play along with cd-tracks.
- When on the bus for school I listen to music.
- When cleaning my room I listen to music.
- When working I listen to music.
- Before going to sleep I listen to music.
- When waking up and making breakfast I listen to music... etc. etc.

Maybe a bit off-topic here but a lot of people think that people of my age ( 18 ) don't know what good music is these days.
Well not for me, I like those 60's songs and rock 'n' roll stuff. I totally dislike those "simple-made" modern hits most of the times.

My favorite bands are AC/DC, Pixies, Zebrahead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Dire Straits, Red Hot Chili Peppers and so on...

What about you guys?

I disagree. I'm 31 and I do not think that 18 yr olds have ALL got bad taste, just most of them!!! LOL. I know a fair few 18/19/20 yr olds through my dj'ing on the trance/hard trance/nrg scene and consequently I have spent time outside of clubs with these people. Many of them have amazing taste in music and have even introduced me to a few bands I like now. So good on ya, if ya know ya stuff!!

Whether playing records as a DJ or playing my guitar or just listening in the background music is my everyday companion.

Embarassingly enough for an 18 year old, the piece of music that holds the most emotion for me is Phil Collins - No Way Out.

Beautiful lyrics, that completely 100% describe the state of my life just a few years back.

In fact I might just put it on now...

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I'm another flying the musician/magician flag high. 6 years of guitar and spome experience (but not much) with drums and keyboards.

My favourite bands:
Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica, Metallica, Dream Theater...

My favourite song in the history of time is a song called "Tallulah" by Sonata Arctica.

I'm sure many of you will be familiar with Dream Theater, purely because their instrumental stuff forms a large part of the soundtracks to the demo videos I've put on here for you all to peruse.
