Bring bottom card to 'middle'

Postby Jelmo » Mar 17th, '06, 09:18

Hi guys!

I'm working on a trick but I need a move which can get the bottom card of the deck to the middle when I spread the cards. It is to reveal that a selected card ended up in the middle where I split the deck (fan it out).

I hope you guys know what I mean and somebody could give me the name of a move/sleight that can accomplish this.

Thanks in advance

Hm...how about a turnover pass and then spread the cards in the same motion....

Agree with point a turnover pass would be a perfect move for this or any other pass for that matter.
Or a more simple way than that would be to shuffle the card to the bottom and simply finish the shuffle with a cut.

Is this like the spread pass?
Otherwise could you give me some hints/tips on the turnover pass (if needed through PM)?

Easiest method is to simply classic pass the deck before the spread... this performs exactly the same effect as a cut.

Or you could use a gesture cut (or gesture pass)....very deceptive and very easy...

If I'm not mistaken, the Gesture Pass is covered by our good friend Mr Bingham

I learned it from Allan Ackerman's vid....it's just the pass that's covered with a gesture...you take one half of the cards and instead of doing the pass you just gesture with the right hand, take the top half (or bottom) and then replace it "wrong" when you bring your hands together...ofcoure Miss Direction will help here  ..I don't know if it's called Gesture Cut or Pass...I'm at work so I can't check :(

I think sankey refers to is as the bluff pass. Its in Sankey Unleashed by Jon Racherbaumer.

Ah...I think I've heard of it somewhere as the Bluff pass. Thanks.

hold the deck in your left hand (with the selected card on the bottom of the deck) with your left forefinger at the top of the deck and your left pinkie at the base of the deck (straddle grip).. place your right thumb on the top card (as you would when you normally spread the deck) and with your right second finger press upwards against the bottom card. As you start to spread the deck drag the bottom card out under the spread..ask the spec to point to any card and break the spread at that point.. tap the spread against the table to square it up and turn over the deck to show the selected card... if needs be i can make a vid of the move in action to show what i mean

I think most people are just a little embarrased mog, I know I am. Why go for the natural sleight when we've got an opportunity to do a whole variety of passes.
From memory, theres also a reference to this in RRTCM under the title Sliding Key Card Force.

Well, I sat down over lunch with a deck of cards (the cards were paying, so I naturally had a club sandwich), and I still believe my suggestion of a classic pass to be the simplest and cleanest move for the required effect.

:D
