What's your favorite flourish?

Postby SpongeBallSlight-of-hand » Mar 15th, '06, 05:14

What's your favorite card florish, and what's your favorite coin florish and why? I like the coin roll because I can do it anywhere, although even when I get it down it still falls off. This can be annoying to others if sitted at a table. I like the one handed card cut (From Mark Wilsons Book of magic) because it looks hard but is really simple.

Well, I don't think it's possible to give one particular favourite flourish. I have different ones for different times - for example, for a false cut I like the tabled triple cut (not sure of the name) or the Trinary Cut, but for a flourishy cut I prefer KatiKut or one of the Sybils. Then again, the LePaul spread is great for having a card selected - you see what I mean? I don't think I can choose one of them above all the others, I use different flourishes at different times.

I can't say anything about coins unfortunately.

I agree with Kati, its difficult to put your finger on a favourite flourish. I like all the ones I know.

If I had to say which ones do i favour the most - well it'd have to be the easy ones!!! :P

KatiKut, could you describe what kind of flourish that is, or sybril's cut? Is it difficult? I'm not well versed in card flourishes.

Actually the katikut was invented by Katriel himself. It's a fun flourish/cut that he was more than gracious enough to teach to us all (check the file sharing forum).

I myself have been practicing that cut almost daily, since seeing it. It's just a fun little move to play with. Mine isn't nearly as smooth as Kati's, but I do enjoy doing it!

Thanks - it got a much better response than I was expecting actually. It's a double charlier/butterfly type cut - as Demitri said it's in the FS forum with a nice little tutorial for your viewing pleasure.

I don't find it particularly difficult but then I invented it...:D.

A sybil cut is a two handed multiple cut in which the hands never leave the packets. There are many variations out there but the original would be from the basic Z-grip to the Illogical cut.

My favourite flourish that I can do would be Tornado Cut. My favourite flourish that I can't do would the Buck Twin's J5.

Underated and overused maybe, but we can't forget about the card spring surely? Bless it! It was the first real flourish I learned and will always have a fond place in my heart... :)

I don't find it particuarly difficult either, but when someone sees it they say,"Do that again!"

What a great cut Kati. Thanks :D

I love the KatiKut! I do it all the time and Kati is a great teacher. That has to be one of my most favorite flourishes.

Thanks,

Personally I like the card spring from one hand to the other - that is always one that i save until somebody asks if I can do it ;)

Then I follow on to do, and then to do it behind my back :D (it is "taught" in greg wilson's card stunts dvd - watch him do it while performing ;)) Go have a look ;)

Love
