A Hello, a request, and an enchanting dance.

Good afternoon, everyone.

I actually registered here a lengthy time ago, but got distracted by falling glass or something and had completely forgotten my username and password when I returned just now. Thus I've had to reregister. I am a fool.

However, that aside, I've encountered an irk. Because I have slender, artistic hands, I much prefer to use bridge-sized card. This is generally not a problem as I'm innately a 'with a regular deck' kind of chap. Except there are a few tricks I'd like to do that require a/some double-faced card/s (that is, KC/3D, say, etc. - rather than KC/KC). But I'm I can't find anywhere that sells these *in bridge size*. Does anyone know of a supplier?

OK, stand back now - I begin to dance...

Yeah, I'd tried there already, Mand. It was my first choice, in fact, as they are, as you say, extensive and have sorted me out card-wise many times in the past. No luck: all poker size, I'm afraid. The same goes for the punishingly comprehensive playingcardsales.co.uk.

Actually, Mand, as you're here...

Though I'm not so unfortnate as to live in Birmingham, I am in the West Midlands, and have cast the odd retina over the website of the British Magical Society before now. It looks rather interesting - I saw that they had Luke Jermay lecturing in November, for example, which excited me to an unseemly extent; but I was fighting a criminal mastermind on the lip of a volcano on that day anyway, so couldn't have attended whatever the other obstacles. Do you frequent/know about the Soc? Any general info? 'General' that is: not the True Secret of Misdirection*, say, more, 'Yes, it's lovely,' or, 'Pah. Every time you go there they steal your coat.'

Spilling thanks in advance.

Mandrake clears his throat, takes up impressive lecturing stance, pauses for dramatic effect - and to figure out what the hell to say - and begins....
The BMS prides itself in being older than the Magic Circle (another first for Birmingham!) and held its Centenary celebrations last January - several months before the MC did their thing. I went to the BMS bash last year and was chuffed to find that Darryl’s Wife, Allison, was actually the first lady member of BMS so we can certainly turn out some class in Brum! Sadly that’s about all I know about them, they used to meet in the centre of Birmingham at one time but now the meeting place is the outskirts on the opposite side of the City to me so not very accessible as such. They certainly have a great list of visiting lecturers and performers and, from the way they greeted everyone last year, I’d say they’re a most welcoming group. As far as I know we don’t have any BMS members represented here on TM – no idea why.

Judas Priest, and now this!

Aye - that is impressive. I'll give you that one.

Anyway, many thanks for the helpful reply, Mand. Your are bronzed and handsome.

You really, really should've gone to Specsavers!

And what's more, Darryl and Allison sat at the same table as me for the evening gala - he actually asked if I'd mind if they shared the table. I was so gobsmacked I could only mutter Neanderthal grunts initially. They're both extremely nice people and we were soon sharing stories on all sorts of topics during the breaks between acts - we made a firm arrangement to meet up at the BMS Bi-Centenary celebration in January 2105 but I have a feeling I won’t be able to make it somehow….

Sext old chum. With regards to the bridge gimmicked cards most likely you will have to split and make your own, however you could do worse than try cardmaker. He is a member here, although doesn't post that much.

His website is http://www.magicbycardmaker.com/ - and I have heard good things about his work. It is possible he willmake you exatly what you want.

You could also try Tirofog as I hear they do a few bridge sized aviator cards that are gimmicked. Not sure they have double facers though – nor whether they have anything bikes. Not sure if bikes are mandatoru though.

Thanks, that's was most useful. Tirofog does do a good (relative to anywhere else on the planet) selection of bridge-sized cards. It's possible that they have what I'm after there. Please ruffle your hair for me.
