Table Hopping/Close up

Postby dracven » Mar 23rd, '06, 12:31

Hey guys,

I've been into mentalism for a long while now but a friend of mine has organised a conference and has asked if I could do table hopping instead of a show.

Just wondered if you guys could recommend good, clean, easily reset tricks I could use.

So far I'm thinking Osterlinds Design Duplication, 1 of Max Mavens ESP card items who's name escapes me at present.

However I'm wanting to do stuff other than just cards perhaps...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

a chop cup routine always goes down well.. (thats assuming you want to do stuff other than mentalism obviously).. maybe a coins across routine also.... OR... you could also try some spongeball stuff since that usually gets a great reaction

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Please don't mix the two. Choose one or the other.

I wouldn't mix the 2 normally it'd be one show or the other, but for table hopping I was thinking of a mix to keep people entertained.

In which case you are doing mental magic a truly horrible beast indeed;)

For the record. I believe that an audience can be entertained with a magic routine, and I believe an audience can be entertained with mentalism. My personal preference is that you should never mix the two genres.

I do of course accept that others will disagree.

As mentioned earlier if I were doing a show for the whole room then yes I'd stick with mentalism, but as I'll be doing a mini show for about 30 tables I thought I'd vary it.

I do table-hopping and I like to vary things depending on what the punters sat at the table look like. If they're respectable middle aged folk, I find a nice card trick, perhaps involving marked cards and a bit of mind-reading, goes down a treat. However for the younger folk, there's nothing like a spot of PK fork bending to get them screaming!

I've also been known to escape from lightning handcuffs at the table-side. What a night that was.

Hi Drakven,
I'm in the middle of trying to create a purely mentalism table hopping act right now. (Cos it's easier to get work in restaurants and after Blackpool i am soooo sooo poor. :) )

Some of the things I'm using are:

Osterlind deck routines
Bank night

erm Some Andy Nyman Drawing dupe / psychometry routine i can't
remember the name of from "Short Punchy & mental Notes"

The esp card trick with 2 sets of 5, spectator putting down a card after you, then all math, (again forgot the name) :)

a coin based symbol prediction routine from jay sankeys 22 blows (now what was it's name again??:) )

coin in hand when someone annoying asks for stuff "What that Derren bloke does on the telly"

little bit of muscle reading on an unseen choice of table item

my long lost point being that there are a good variety of effects not using cards that can be used as table mentalism, if you should choose to listen to those who don't like mixing genres, I'm with them, but I'm pro choice, vive le difference!.
