Hello

i have a question

You don’t need to tell me every detail about it but can people really do levitation? How can someone float 5/6 foot in the air? am i right to say this is a camera trick? how else can it be done because if its not a trick of the camera no matter how much one practice we would never be able to float in mid air would we?

The other thing is i saw a guy put a coin in his mouth and swallow it and then it travel down in side his arm and he had to cut his arm open to get it out of him can that be really done? How can i start to practice swallowing a coin to make it come down in side my arm?

is this kind of stuff called magic?

Thanks

There are already some threads on levitation effects which if you read, may give you some form of indication as to how these effects are achieved.

Again, the coin down the arm is a very clever piece of magic but it doesn't happen in the way that it appears.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Thank you for the reply

So you know the people in the street that look amazed when someone is floating 5/6 foot in the air are these people paid to say that? are they actors or something?

Thanks

quite possibly..dont get me wrong the levitations look good on tv BUT how many true accounts have you ever read of people floating (and i mean in ANY history book) whereas now there are loads of folk doing just that swo you have to ask yourself... can they REALLY float (and if they could why would they only do maybe 5 or 6 inches when they could soar like a bird) OR are there tricks involved and people hired to look amazed?

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

One can assume that 'muggles' or the Gen Public or Civilians however you want to label regular folks, are amazed and astounded at most anything out of their ordinary pattern. With the current new age influx and belief in all kinds of off the wall theories, if you simply lit a purple fart they might start a new religion...that said, there is no reason for plants in the crowd (unless you like nice greenery)...we who live this stuff look for the 'man behind the curtain' or a method...most folks out in the wild, do not...they just say WOW and run away in dislocation by the whole affair.

Your questions allow for a certain lack of experience in this game so it's a good idea IF you are facinated with it (as we all were) to follow up with some heavy (or light) reading...here and elsewhere.

No people don't really float 6 feet above the pavement and Coins really do not travel around inside a persons skin.

However...we'll be glad to demonstrate the opposite of that statement..."...wanna see sumpin' really strange?"

Read on

if you want me to be honest i think magic is great and especially when people don’t go to far with it some stuff you can really be like wow how does he do that but when people start doing things that are basically impossible to do then it gets a bit silly. i saw when this guy goes up to this girl and asks her to think of any animal, and she thinks of one then he goes up to a car and pulls the animal she was thinking out of the boot. i would of love to seen what he would of done if she was thinking of an elephant

Please bear in mind that a lot of TV magic programmes can be heavily edited so when you see the performer get the animal, or a number, or a freely thought of card etc right first time, you don't see the other 50 times when he gets it wrong  . You make a good point that sometimes an effect is just plain silly and therefore destroys all believability but that depends very much on the performer and the circumstances. One of the main fascinations of magic is being able to produce the effect of something which is clearly impossible. Another fascination is keeping the method a secret!
