Help with Erdnase olour change please

Postby moonbeam » Mar 24th, '06, 20:53

Ok I'll try n explain my problem without giving too much away

My problem is, on pulling the card backwards I sometimes bring back 2 or 3 cards at a time
I was wondering if fanning powder would help - I've never actually used this cos I'm not into flourishes and fancy spreads etc so I don't know just how effective this would be and if it would be of any use at all

I've also tried pressing harder and not as hard - it seems to be random - sometimes it's ok and I think "ok I've got it now " and other times no matter how hard or lightly I press, I'm always bringing back more than 1 card :x

Before anyone says it - yea I know I need to practice more - but is there any other advice anyone can offer please ??

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Newer cards might help.

I find pushing more light then hard (if you see what I mean) and actually holding the deck as a whole a bit looser (in fact I find that helps with a lot of things - holding the cards a loosely as possible without dropping them.) especially if the cards are older.

Hope this helps PM me (or someone else) if you need more info.

Cheers,

I'm using a brand new deck at the mo
I'll try re-adjusting my grip and see if that helps.
Cheers for that
Anyone else got anything else to add ??

oh, also mate, I found when practicing it at first, holding the cards face on slanted down (so you are pulling the card towards yourself) helped.

Don't know why though.

In John Carney's Book of Secrets he gives some great tips on improving this colour change (thought to be invented by Houdini).
Takes away a few of the unusual tells that we, as magicians ignore.

If you have sweaty hands, dry them on a towel as that might be the cause of the problem.

It might just be thatyou need to practice it more

Good Luck

I found that too - I usually lick my hand at the base to help grip the card.... can't really say anymore for fear of exposure

I find that a newer deck, tilting the cards in a downward slant, and maybe even a little fanning powder helps. I never had much trouble with this trick. Just think, if during that chane you keep bringing back 3 or 4 cards, you could change the already changed card INTO A NEW ONE!

Thanks,

Ive got fanning powder and it does help a little bit,but i think you may have heard this before but try and play with it a litte bit, slow it down, get a feel for it. Also helps if ur hands are a bit moist too. Hope this helps if not i think you will find it in Born to Perform,Jay sankey explains it a bit too on a few of his dvds, not sure which ones, plus another thousand sources. Dont miss this one up though, its a very magical change.

This colour change is someting that will work as a trick in itself if you try it.

I agree with the hand moistness issue. This is great in a pub becayse you can pick up your pint, take a slurp, and be ready to go (a good bit of condensation on the glass and an inconspicuous full palming of the glass). However soes someone have any suggestions to make this situation less "pint-dependent"?

Anyway moonbeam...if you're having trouble with extra cards then try curling your palm downwards as you push forward. It won't look as smooth but it won't make a difference to lay people. If you need a vid to explain this the PM me.
