50 Greatest Magic Tricks

Postby SlipperyPenguin » Nov 9th, '05, 16:09

Maybe this is the wrong area to ask in.. but..

I was watching the 50 greatest magic tricks on E4 the other night when after one of the "breaks" the guy from Dirty Magic (sorry can't remember his name off hand) did a coin through table routine using a glass table.

Not being into coin magic as such I was quite impressed that he did it viewed from above and below and thought.. I could do that.

I started with some ideas and worked out how some of this "may" have been done (my best guesses anyway) but haven't by any means figured it out for sure or in it's entirerity.

Does anyone know where I can get this trick from (or a similar one that could be adapted at least) as I've no idea what I'm looking for (apart from coin penetration type things) but this specific one eludes me so far.

Thanks

Slippery

Can't help with the trick but did you notice that it was described as 'Brand New' in the top left hand corner of the screen yet is was the same one with Adam an Joe as was broadcast a year or three back?

The only difference was that they refilmed some of the links, Pete Firman and Ali Cooke were entitled 'Dirty Tricksters' instead of 'Monkey Magic' and the one notable link no longer included was Monkey Magic's Peter McMahon who died last December. Same clips, same order and many of the same links but with a few changes. It's still good to see the classic stuff occasionally!

Indeed. It reminded me that Paul Daniels is a genius. The cup and ball schtick he did was sublime.

Ali Cooke

That's him.. (memories going ..)

As for the show I particularly like the floating lightbulb, Paul Daniels cup and ball and the Zi-Zag Lady is still good today (if not a little over exposed and known). As they say.. the little things please little minds.

Anyway, any idea where the coin trick is explained.

Thanks

When I originally saw it I wondered whether or not he was using 'Buttercoin' as that features a visual (I think) coin through table. I'm pretty certain he used it in some sections of Monkey Magic though.

Buttercion is available from http://www.alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Alak ... 2_134.html but with American coins - it was available from MT with 10ps but they don't stock it anymore  .

The butter coin does show a coin through table routine and also a variation for doing the coin through a glass top table. I bought the 10p version, didn't know that it isn't available any more.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Yep, and it's even better when you see it live. The man is fantastic. Even knowing how he does it, I nearly fell out of my seat.

The effect you're talking about is Ceseral (maybe wrong spelling) Melting Point. You can buy this through Ellusionist.com
