Not sure about that - Google ranks pages by links to them. Try to get people to link to you as a testimonial and you will rise in the rankings.

Although, I'm not sure that search engines are the place that people will go to look for a magician - I think the yellow pages will be first, or else if they have a business card...

Meta tags help, but not nearly enough. Links help, as Katriel said, and it's one of the faster ways to generate traffic, but you also need content and links on the site itself.

It's a blend of all the things mentioned above, as well as your site content and links away from the site. You need to keep up on these things, as well as retool your site and links for content, phrases, keywords, and text that the search engines can spider.

My advice would be to do some searches on the web regarding Search Engine Optimization. It's a very complex system.

SEO is quite an art ... but you can do plenty to help your ranking.

Meta Tags are worth including, but dont fuss over them, the majority of large Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo no longer take to much notice of them.

Again, padding with redundant content doesnt really help, the spiders can tell the difference between valid content and content which is just crammed with 'buzz words' in an attempt to boost the ratings.

Content is King though, and the bots for these SE's is becomming smarter all the time, provided you have clear, concise content that is usfull to your surfers then the SE's are wise enough to rank you well.

Clean code and Accessibility wont really make much difference, but it does help a little, asign your headers proper <h> tags and use <ul> for lists of links in navigation menu's and things like that.

As suggested by Kati, quality links and click-through also help, spread your link around and get it listed on other 'quality' sites, such as TalkMagic in your footer then it will always help.

SE optimization is not somthing that will happen overnight, it takes time, and you also experience yo-yoing (not the hip hop type) where your ranking will change vastly during the period of a week.

Make sure you have submitted your domain to the SE's, they can then add it to the database and start indexing your more quickly, rather than having to wait for the trawlers and spiders to find your site.

I would also suggets getting yourself a proper domain if you dont have one, using free hosting like myname.somesite.com isnty going to help very much ... so steer clear of those.

But like i say, the general concensise in the industry is that content is becomming the prodominant thing.

Hope this helps,

Rob

p.s. keep in mind that the SE's dont read images, so take as much text out of images into your HTML as possible, you should also make sure you have alt="" attributes for all your images with decent descriptions.

And, make sure your code is valid and has the correct document type.

If you want us to give you a bit more direction then you can always post of PM some samples of your code and we can come up with ideas.

From memory your site was constructed using a site builder, do you have access to change the actualy code for your site?

This sort of programming isnt too hard, and little things like Doc Types and META's are easy enough to achieve.

Ta,

Rob
