Hello

I am after a DVD or DVD’s that are dedicated to doing just sleights showing how to hold the cards and how to do all the different card movements

what can you recommend?

Thanks

As always, I would highly recommend Born to Perform by Oz Pearlman. It's a basics card magic DVD that has all the moves that you need as a beginner to start wowing people with card magic.

There's a link in my signature.

*shifty look* No, I don't get a commission. Of course not!

I second Born to Perform. It starts from the beginning of the beginning like how to hold the cards. But if you already know a few tricks and have other vids for tricks, it may be a bit of revision for you.

card slights - beginner

Postby archimage » Apr 6th, '06, 05:36

As a recent beginner myself (I now rate myself as moving towards intermediate), I recommend Encyclopedia of Card Slights series by Daryl. It's an awesome way to get started. I think it is also important to know not only card slights, but how to handle the cards. For this I recommend Basic Card Technique by Richard Kaufman. Finally, The Royal Road to Card Magic DVD Series with R. Paul Wilson is a great way to get many slights and variations with tricks at the end of each slight.

If you do a search function, you'll find many other posts with this topic and get a lot more information.

btw, I haven't gotten Born to Perform, but I see it recommended frequently here, so I think I will have to get it myself.

From the other DVDs you have I don't think you would need Born to Perform - you can get most of the material from the other sources.

Daryl, all the way. Although i haven't seen the royal road dvd's, but the book certainly wasn't the most ideal source.

Born to perform is a good dvd but it does not contain anywhere near as much info as the daryl's.

you could also look at the Allan Ackerman series "Advanced card controls"

Or you could sprint before you walk and get something like Brian Tudor`s Showoff Dvd, or Cap Cuts. Only kidding. Yeah Born to Perform is a very good teaching DVD to get started off in the wonderful world of magic. I also find that a lot of Jay Sankey`s effects are easy to peform too. Dont forget to keep practicing though.

I already had a good knowledge of magic and card handling, i said this was my first DVD. I have lots and lots of books from which I have learnt a majority of effects from. Generation Extereme is a XCM Dvd, for all of you who dont know what this is, it is Xtreme Card Manipulaition which I have really got into.
:D
