I heard he's added CMH to his gig - except the bands are really penetrating when he does it  .

I also heard he is doing his rendition of the Linking Rings. It's a great routine. But I've heard a few people have been hospitalised because Uri's method doesn't involve removing them from spectator's fingers first.

Thanks for the heads up, Piers.

Here's the dates for Uri Geller's 2006 Tour.

So if we go, as magicians, are we allowed to snigger at the layfolk?

I have no doubts at all that it will be a facinating evening.
Having seen him up close and personal,I can say that you will no doubt leave wondering if...

If his brother in law is there, he's a nice guy to chat to, as is his wife, and kids.

Just dont ask any silly questions, because they wont get answered.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Uri - Mini review

Postby Piers » Mar 4th, '06, 16:14

Uri Geller – 2006 – Performance Thoughts.

We saw Uri Geller this week, at the St.Albans Civic Centre…

Like many, I still vividly remember the BBC show where Uri Geller bent spoons and made watches start. I think from that day on, continuing today, he became a household name.

As the 2 hour performance commenced, Uri Geller immediately engaged his audience. His personality is of course a strong one, but it has every reason to be.

Uri started with a history of his earlier life. I learnt much about his childhood, not an easy one by all accounts, and it is fair to say that he has come out of things remarkably well ! Perhaps the initial poverty and hardship spurred him on to greater things. And the many newspaper articles he displayed certainly were testament to the incredible number of well known figures he has met, and his varied life and travels.

Of course, what many wanted to see, was his ‘spoon bending and watch mending’. And they were not disappointed. With the help of the audience, and children invited on stage, the spoons did bend ( quite simply amazing ! ), and the broken watches did start, a large pile of them, almost without exception.

Uri Geller also talked about his thoughts on UFO’s and the more unusual facets of life, but also demonstrated his views on Positive Thinking and Self Belief. Not just for himself, but for the audience as a whole. My wife especially, felt truly lifted and quite moved, by what he had to say. And I think it will stay with her for some time.

The complete presentation was a full and rounded one. Two hours of spoon bending it was not. But the old and the new were beautifully combined, with an opportunity for questions at the end.

At the finish, Uri Geller took time ( real time ), to talk, sign autographs, pose for photographs, in a way that was really nice. He could simply have existed stage left, but probably spent at least another hour, with his audience.

I certainly came away with positive thoughts (!), but also a new insight into this household name.

I also learnt with interest, about the extensive Charity work he does.

In a word – excellent.

Piers.

Thanks for a most interesting review Piers.

I find that whenever you mention Geller's name there is always a number of extreme reactions and this includes those from magicians, the majority of whom have only ever seen Geller on TV.. I thought that your review was both fair and judgemental ONLY on the content of the show and for this reason it was great to read.

I will not try to get tickets for one of his remaining shows.

Oh dear, spare me your wrath.
but.
Uri pretends as far as I'm aware, that he has powers. It's ok for us to think of him as a Banacheck type dude but I think it smacks a little of a cold reader pretending he's talking to some poor souls dead Dad.
I'm not saying he's not a nice guy, just...

Uri is a terrible person. He has made a fortune from pretending to be the real deal and scammed many people from their hard earned cash. However that is not to say that there isn't a lot to be learnt from him. This guy knows more than anyone else how to convince people magic is real. Its just a shame he chooses to use those skills in the way he does.

As a human I would not give him a penny however as a magician I will respect the fact he has managed to do what we all strive do and make simple tricks into something astounding and I am prepared to give up £30 of my cash to gain even a little of his showmanship.

Oh come off it man. Uri is an entertainer. There are loads of people out there who believe in psychic powers, ghosts, the supernatural etc, and WILL NOT listen to the debunkers. If someone like Uri (or anyone else) can tap into that market and make a fortune then good luck to them. Thing is if the people who go to see his shows weren't spending their spare change on him then they would be spending it on some other psychic. A lot of those who go in for that sort of thing know it's all a load of hokum anyway but they're fans of the genre in the same way you have people who are fans of romance novels or horror movies.

Having said all that I saw him for the first (and last) time in Maidstone a few months back and was not impressed and neither were two thirds of the audience from what I could make out. I was kind of expecting hoards of foaming-at-the-mouth "believers" but the audience was very sedate indeed. Most of the show consisted of him showing newspaper clips of himself to a TV camera which was then projected onto a screen behind him. His "mind reading" with the flip chart was truely pathetic and the spoon bending section was a real let down for me. The first spoon he bent (obviously gaffed) was plucked from a box of spoons. No attempt at all to fake it was a random selection from a group of solid ones. The next spoon came from the audience and after he did the "LOOK, LOOK! CAN YOU SEE? CAN YOU SEE? IT'S BENDING, IT'S BENDING" thing he ran down from the stage into the audience (running down the stage steps gave him ample opportunity to do the real bend). What a bummer!
