You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

rubberband

I really liked that one. I've searching for the DVD that has that trick on it. I have bandshark, but didn't really like that DVD and it didn't have that trick on it.

I watched that video three times and could not see the slight. Hats off to ya bud.

Awesome :D

I think my dodgy camera might have helped that actually... but given what the sleight is, would a layperson even be looking for it? And if they saw it, would they know?

I'm glad you like it anyway :D

1. Look at the camera
2. You show off the bands a bit too much before the actual trick.

Apart from that, well done!

lol Yeah I always have a problem watching the preview rather than the cam, and yeah I guess I did show them a bit too much at the beginning.

Thanks for the comments guys :D

Not just to you but lots of people seem to be doing this at the moment. When did patter stop becoming part of magic?

The story of how Houdini went crazy but couldn't be restrained in the mad house becuase he would escape from the jackets is a brilliant one and turns something from "hey look what I can do" to a magical experience.

Well done with the sleight though

This is available as a Penguin *spits* download called "Quantum Bandits".

I dunno about everyone else but I have loads of fun with pattering when performing for real people...most of it not really relevant to the trick, just me having a laugh with my speccie. For example I was doing a trick at work to one of the girls which involved her shuffling an ID. Her mimmicking of shuffling looked a little...well, erm..."rude" shall we say? I couldn't resist the temptation to give her a cheeky smile and say "Oh, go on do that again." She just laughed at me.

Anyway, back to my original point...I find it really difficult to give entertaining patter in front of a camera, I kinda feed of the interest of my spectators, there ain't much interest emanating from a red light on a camera.

Thank you on the sleight...
And I always patter.
It's just that I can either make the videos on a really bad camera with a microphone (the video quality would be atrocious...) or I can make it on a good camera without a microphone.

Am looking into investing in a DV though, so maybe I'll be able to do some more tricks with patter :D

PS: I like your Houdini patter :D

I watched this and was extremely impressed. I also love how you watch nothing your hands are doing
You perform the trick well and everything, but the fact that you don't watch yourself do it makes it...a little less magical.

Thanks,
Dominick

He is watching himself, on the preview on his Monitor...that way he knows he won't go out of the shot.

Bingo.

10 points to that man.
If I don't watch myself on the preview then I end up going hugely out of shot and it looks pointless :?

Although I genuinely don't watch my hands.
I picked up a couple of rubber bands at work today and made some joke about physics being bendable and whilst I was talking I was doing the trick (Phil, my colleague was busy watching my hands anyway) and suddenly took them apart and he just said "Whoa... That's actually pretty cool..."
[edit] Whilst it's not really a magical reply, its a sign of a trick well done  He also asked me how I did it, so I stuck with my story of bending physics 8) [/edit]

Is a very good effect. Very visual. But the fact is: people will see only what you want. Is not necesary don´t watch your hand. In fact... you must watch your hands. Not all the time, but the most part of it. You must call the attention to the rubberband (people watch your hands) you raise your head and look the audience at the same time you make the secret manouver, and if is possible you make any kind of question (obnubilante idea, Arturo de Ascanio (the most important theorical spanish magician) this forces a spectator to create a answer, so the secret manouver is even more invisible. In fact when the spectator reconstruct all the rutine in his head he can´t remember that for one second he raise his head to the eye level to look at you and answer your question. Is very effective technique, in the spanish theory is call "idea obnubilante" (make the question in the moment that the secret move is made), and the movement of the head (from the hands to the front, and back to the hands) is call "cruce de miradas" (something like" cross of glances). I hope you understand me... my english is not very well. I´m southamerican.
Bye guys
