Sadowitz In Glasgow?

Postby Dean Sexton » Mar 21st, '06, 21:36

Hi folks, I was just wondering if anyone caught Jerry Sadowitz's magic show at the Tron theatre a few weeks ago? I'm going to see him at Cumbernauld, and was wondering what to expect. How long did he perform for? What sort of stuff did he do apart from cards? Was he abusive/offensive?

Cheers.

Are there two Jerry Sadowitzes?

I haven't seen this guy live, only watched one video of him, and, I hope he's better live than on video, because, that was a huge disappointment. Great tricks, lame performance... :(

I saw Jerry at the Soho Theatre a few months ago and yes, he was his usual abusive/offensive self (which is great IMO).

If anyone's interested I've put up some clips from his first TV series including a couple of "Roy Walton Moments" here:

3 of the files are over 20mb so they will probably take a while to load.

I had never saw Jerry until today, when I was about 2cm away from him :D

Me and my friend (he has just started in magic) walked into Tam Shepards, and I saw this guy standing with massive curly hair. Then I realised who it was  He seems like a really nice guy, nothing like what I have heard he is like on stage

I didn't have any paper to get an autograph, or even my phone to get a picture of him!! :(

Anyway, I was going to go and see him in Cumbernauld, as its just 5mins up the road from me, but no under 18s aloud :(

Jerry is a top guy. He has always been very friendly/helpful and consrutctive whenever I have met him. However, you were probably best of not asking for an autograph/taking his picture etc. He's not that keen on that kinda thing I am lead to believe.

Well, as we were walking up the street behind him when we were heading back to the bus, he didn't seem to mind when a guy asked for a picture with him.

Jerry seemed very pleased and even put on a cowboy hat he had just bought :D

You obviously caught him on a good day then. Those that know Jerry will know what I mean!

I went on Wednesday. I was slightly disappointed at the fact that there was only about 20 minutes of magic (for a show that was billed as 'More Card Tricks And Close Up Magic'), but what a 20 minutes it was! He did a fantastic cups and balls routine- the appearance of the final loads was a thing of beauty. I have no idea how or when they got there, and i was watching intently. He also did a comedy card type thingy, and a one handed knot. Apart from this, the only other magic related stuff was some Tommy Cooper-esque 'tricks'- not very magical, but very funny (especially his rabbit from hat production- now that was a lesson in misdirection!). The other hour or so of the show was basically Jerry hurling abuse at every minority under the sun and i have to admit that if found it hilarious for the most part. There's something about his onstage demeanour that takes the sting out of his offensive tirades.

Not for everyone, i imagine, but you've got to love those cups and balls!

I've just had a look at the clips and coughed my lungs up laughing! I'd forgotten just how funny he is. That cynical stance he has really connects.
