It was actually coined right here on TM a number of years ago  .

Don't suppose you know who on here coined that term? :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Greetings old bean and welcome to the good ship TM,

May I just send you my congratulations on a marvelous name and picture (although you do look a little peeky in it)!

If I were you I would invest in a big block of bicycle cards and one of the many excellent beginners DVD's (Ellusionist's Crash Course) or books (Royal Road to Card Magic).

Alternatively, purchase a good 'all round' tome: 'The Art of Magic And Sleight of Hand' by Nicholas Einhorn is one such excellent text for a beginner and offers many non expensive ideas for fantastic effects, another is 'Street Magic' by Paul Zenon.
These will both give you a good smattering of effects that aren't just confined to cards and are inexpensive to practice or make. :)

Being a good mentalist (yeah, right!), I anticipated that question so I tried doing searches going back to April 2003 but CUPS and Cups (as in ' and Balls' occur so frequently that it's a long job ploughing through them all - it might even have been back in the Old Forum days which makes it doubly difficult because all the old posts are preserved but unfortunately not the names of the person posting as it was in a different format to phpBB.
