Is it just my computer, or was the video extremely jumpy? It played more like a series of still images than a video.

Having gone through it, though - I'm not sure what I think of this effect. You never really showed the egg as empty (at least, I couldn't get that impression from the video), all I saw was you show the egg kind of stacked on itself, then the video cut, and you show the top of the egg - close it, and then you can see the shadow of the coin in the egg.

Granted the shadow problem can be fixed easily enough, and with some patter it could be a nice effect. However, you need to refine your handling of it - and make sure that both halves of the egg are clearly and fairly shown empty before you begin the effect.

Also when presenting this to the public would it be possible to start with the aforementioned plastic egg inside a chocolate one? Might take a bit of setup but if you can do it the chocolate would make a good hand out to kids and add to the believabilty of it all, you could even include some mock disappointment that the plastic egg is unexpectedly empty into your routine forcing you to make your own surprise... :)

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this, but it really looks like a cut. Perhaps it's just the quality of the video that's making it do it.

What I see, is your hands, close up - holding the eggs stacked together. In a split second, there is a noticeable jump, your hands are out of frame, and when they come back in - you are hold just the top of the egg in your right hand.

Again, it might not be a cut - but it sure looks like one to me. Regardless - you still need to work on displaying the entire egg as empty before going into the effect.

Ahhhh I see.... Good work MM, probably because I was expecting it I saw the sleight but that's not neccesarily a bad thing because it means I know what you're doing. The shadow is a bit of a problem with the yellow egg (but I believe you said you'd be using a red one in performance and that would deal with it). I do agree with myself (nice work Flash, why thank you Flash you handsome devil) that it would benefit from being in a chocolate egg to start with and having just seen the working this looks possible. If I have any more thoughts I'll let you know... :)

It's a nice little effect, but I don't think you can claim this to be 100% original.

The method is one that I've seen used many times in different situations, although I have not seen it done with a plastic egg, before.
