Criss Angel Levitation Exposure

Postby ace of kev » Apr 14th, '06, 01:07

I havw found a site that has taken part of Criss Angels levitation DVD and exposes how it is done.

I need to contact him or someone important on this matter, as I feel this is extremely unfair to criss, and to everyone else who has bought the DVD (which includes me)

Thanks

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to include my question! Does anybody know where I can contact anyone to do with this?

no sorry but i also had watched a friends copy and then was directed to this by someone else.

but im not sure if you possibly could as the internet is not tecnicaly owned by any one so it would be tricky for him to do any thing about it.

Well, it is a direct lift from the DVD, so isn't that piracy?

If you mean the clip I'm thinking about (about a minute or so) well that must be piracy, if the dvd has protections which for a price like that it must have.

If a part of the DVD is reproduced without consent having been given then this is an infringement of copyright.

I think that piracy is when you copy the whole of the DVD for resale.

Exposing the secret may not be illegal but using the footage is illegal, whether it's on the internet or not

The Internet over all isn't owned by anyone (though technically, DNS is owned bythe Us Department of Commerce), but the individual servers are owed by ISPs and web space companies. A Cease and Desist letter to the perpetrator and to the ISP should do the trick.

It is piracy, a direct lift from the DVD, and I need someone to contact about it. I have know found it on two places. I found these by just looking for videos of him performing.

Put the web-address into a whois search, that should give you the webhost, and then contact them like Tomo said.

Its rediculous, I have been on 2 video clip sites (commercial ones) and typed in "Magic" and it has braught up the exposure to this effect.

Plus, they have both stuck their own watermark on it. Rediculous.

Edit : Here is the email I sent, feel free to use it as a template for any complaints you have.

Hey,

There is a magic video posted on your website which shows exposure of chris angel's levitation effect, the reference is this video :

{link was posted here}

This video sells commercially for $100, and you are broadcasting it illegally for free. I am sure you will agree with me that this is not only illegal, but also extremely immoral.

Not only is it loosing Criss Angel money, who commercially sells this video, but its loosing money to magicians worldwide, who often find that their reptuation building effects, which take literally weeks of solid practice to perfect, are ruined within seconds due to exposure such as this. Please please please, show video's of illusions being performed, but do not allow exposure to be posted on your website, even if it is user provided content.

No matter how you see it, you are profiting in advertisment revenue from other peoples hard work.

You should have moderation against materials of this nature being posted, at least having a moderation system where you have to check each file uploaded individually. If you were allowing people to distrobute software over your site, you would be shut down immediately, and I personally do not see any difference between that and this content.

Thankyou for any reply,

Ashley Hartwell

yeah ive found a few clips from penguin magic dvds on a certain video hosting site. It happens alot, unfortunatly even if they are taken down - once its out there its out and can never be completely removed from the net.

[edit] just sent penguin magic an email to let them know its there
