tenkai card palm

Postby Option » Apr 18th, '06, 11:03

Hi
In the tenkai card palm, what section of my thumb should I be using? I'm currently using the joint, but it feels unstable. Maybe the width of the card is too great for my hands?
I also find I have the card sloping down, ie near the wrist it's lower than up top. Is this a mistake?

my self i prefer not using the joint but more closer to the tip because my hand aint the biggest also you need a lot of practise to get used to this.

when pulling into the tenkaiuse the "life line" i think its called the one shaped like an A and going down to your wrist.

hope it helped

You mean the curved line nearest the thumb?
Do you find when palmed, all my fingers go stiff. For my trick I need to hold/show another card while palmed, and my hand looks bent and stiff

I personally wouldn't use Tenkai for that as it's a bit angley - it's fine if you want the hand to look empty but if you are drawing attention to it it is all to easy to flash a corner of the palmed card. I would use a lateral palm, or barring that just coalesce the two cards and treat them as a double.

I wouldn't be so dismissive of the tenkai palm. I know it's very angle sensitive but I've never seen a palm that you can use so much as a normal hand if your angles are right.

However, if you're repertoire is limited to needing a tenkai palm for one of your key rountines, then there is a problem. It should only be used in a routine where you can just decide to use it because the opportunity is there.

Anyway...mine kind of goes diagonally across my thumb. From my wrist to my fingers it contacts the crease at the first joint and slightly more towards the tip of my thumb at the end closer to my fingers. I have found this very comfortable. Hope this helps.

The life line is on the left hand for guys though! And I use my right hand for tenkai!

Anyways, I place it half way between the tip and the phalange of the thumb. Here's a tip I just thought of: place the card between your index and middle finger as if you just produced a card from Tenkai. Now curl the fingers into the Tenkai position and this should be your natural position for you grip! Then do this more often to get the feel of it to make it more natural and then you can practice in the mirror the angles.
