The 7's

Postby sauruman » Apr 21st, '06, 15:58

Im trying out the 7's but i requires you to start out with 4 7's on top, the DVD im learning from suggested getting them on by slipping them under the fan while searching for jokers, but i don't like that method cause you can't use that excuse twice, once the jokers are out, thier out. So I'm wondering if there a better, more reusable method to get the 7's on top or any other sets of 4 cards for that matter.

My input would be:

If you are doing a routine, and the 7's is not the first trick, you can use a trick where you are incorrectly guessing their card.

In the process of finding their card, you move the 7's into a packet on top or bottom, while throwing out a couple of bad guesses, then you move on to the rest of the current trick, the bad guesses being the misdirection for the setup of the second trick.

id rather do it with sleight of hand, or by controlling the cards as my rountine goes on but i don't know how to accomplish that.

I was making the assumption that the act of moving them would be with sleight during another routine.

The act of searching for bad guesses gives a viable excuse for searching, and once each is located, you can use a variety of passes and controls to move them.

Having just recieved 'Born to Perform' from penguin magic, I fell like there are enough sleights in that one to make it work, you just need to have ample misdirection so as to not arose suspision.

The only other way I can think of is to use gimmicked cards that allow for their removal in an easy manner.

aren't there any sleights that do not need misdirection or perhaps other card tricks that require you collect cards thus allowing you to search for the 7's.

If you're only searching for them and not taking them out, then using sleights to move them, I like to say, "Nothing suss," while I fan them across the table/floor.

Then I get a good view of where the cards are (don't know if it'll work for this trick as you're searching for multiple cards I'm assuming) and then you can use your sleights to control them. This is just my way of misdirection to find the card I want.

But otherwise, I agree with what JamesPhysit said. Use misdirection. The DVD that taught you the, "I'm looking for Jokers," thing was a misdirection so that you can find them.

But if you really want to do it with sleights only and without needing to go through the misdirection, I can only so much think of pre-preparing it somehow so you can just go straight to your magic.

When I do 2 car monte I just say I'm looking for the cards we're going to use and do the others at the same time. People aren't paying attention, just do it, then give it a false shuffle, no one will care.... trust me

Otherwise just act as if you've noticed something odd with your cards. Say some guy with dirty hands was playing with your cards earlier.

I think you're giving the spectators too much credit.

Here are a few ideas I would consider for this set-up impromptu:

- If you're searching for jokers and can control at least two to where you need them then you can utilise a Sankey method for to get the next two. Just tell the speccie you're going to use two cards, take them out, put them on top then tell them that that it's a silly idea for you to pick the cards, they should choose the cards themselves, as you innocently false cut the deck. All four should now be on top. Just find a two card selection trick which will allow you to make sure the top stock is retained.

- Move the four sevens whilst finding another set of cards for another trick, such as four aces or royal flush cards for some kind of poker trick.

- Have your set-up ready at the top of your deck, palm off the four sevens and ask someone to shuffle the cards. When they return them you can return them to the top of the deck.

There's a few ideas I might consider if I were to desire this set-up a trick similar.
