Out Of This World

Postby Delude » Apr 22nd, '06, 10:26

Howdy :D I was wandering if there are any good ways to show that the deck is all mixed up before you start 'Out Of This World'. If anyone can tell me any good techniques then please post or PM me. Several people get suspicious when you don't show them the deck, I have tried fake shuffles but it doesn't look as good as actually showing them.

Thanks

Possibly the most convincing version you can do involves a gaffed deck... a stripper deck does the job nicely.

I won't go into details, but a stripper deck can be mixed randomly, and with a few cuts/shuffles can be re-ordered black/red invisibly very quickly.

Just a suggestion.

there are also some good versions of OOTW where the deck is shuffled by the spectator before you start...

If you buy the DVD 'Thirteen' from http://www.magictricks.co.uk then there is a good version on here with a shuffled deck.

There's 12 other tricks as well if my maths is up to speed

Dearie me. Dearie me. It is perfectly obvious that nobody knows the BEST way of dealing with this matter.

It is the George Blake method. And nobody has ever heard of it. This despite the fact that it has been around for years and years and years and years.

I have heard of it of course. I do know everything after all. However I shall have to get George's permission before I can reveal it. Unfortunately he is somewhat dead at the moment which would normally present some difficulty in the matter. However I am constantly in touch with the spirit world so no doubt I will be able to make contact with him and see if I can find out anything.

It might take a little while since I have to go out now and attend to my congregation.

Perhaps later.

Incidentally it is unwise policy to try to prove things that don't need proving. In other words it is unwise to try to show that the deck is not set up by showing them openly before you start. Bad policy. It is in the same league as saying "here I have an empty box" when just saying this will make the audience suspicious that the box isn't empty. If you show the deck face up and say "you see that they are all mixed up" this will make the audience wonder why you said it and they are liable to say "let ME shuffle them"

Why give yourself that headache? Al Baker once said "Don't run when nobody is chasing you"

Good advice.

Can never tell if ur serious ML. But for OOTW you shouldn't stress the deck is shuffled. It's not 'important'. Just do some FS while talking and that should be enuf :P do a F riffle if need be.

The best version I have seen is Derren Brown's version on Devil's Picturebook. The trick starts proper with the spectator shuffling the deck. Derren's version is SO streamlined it's incredible. It goes from spectator shuffle, to spectator makes two piles (not four like most versions I've seen, and no switching which pile you put the colours in either), then the cards are shown to have been separated perfectly. Beautiful.

Yeah it's taught on Devil's Picturebook. It's not particularly difficult but there is a move at the end which will take some practice to stop it from looking figity when you do it. There is a Lennart Green move at the start too which looks really easy but I'm not quite comfortable with it yet. It's easy enough to work around it though.

Why not use Lennart Green's Angle Separation?

I use the version on www.magictricks.co.uk. It is an instant download called Order this World. I love the effect myself and I use it all the time as it is totally impromptu as with almost all effects that I do.

I think that the download is the Tom Salinsky version and that's the one that I use more often than not!
