Derren and Criss!

Postby themagicwand » Apr 21st, '06, 23:24

So far this week I've seen both Derren Brown and Criss (I think that's how the colonial chappie spells his name) Angel both do the find an object by holding the punter's arm and reading the subconscious twitching of the muscles type thing.

I think I'd be fairly correct in thinking that all this reading the muscles malarky is a load of old tosh? And that the truth is far simpler?

In the 2 examples I've seen, Criss Angel did his routine in a car lot. The manager hid the keys in a bloody big car that was on a pedestal above all the other cars. Why didn't he just pick a nondescript car in the middle of the parking lot? And of course Criss found the keys with mere moments left before his time ran out. Too suspicious by half.

Likewise with Derren. His fella hid the item (keys again?) in a bloody big fountain in the middle of a bloody big piazza. What was wrong with a dustbin round the back of the local burger bar?

Any thoughts?

As far as I'm aware it is very much real. I haven't read much on it just a bit in Corinda's 13 steps.

The fact that Criss only found it at the last second is just all editing to make it more dramatic to watch.

This sort fo muscle reading is very easy. Give it a go the person will pretty much drag you to the location.

...there's a whole book on muscle reading from Mr. Shaw/Banachek...yes it does work - and buy yourself a pendulum too...

Having seen DB do it and read Banachek's book and seen his DVD and also the Burlingame book that comes with Banachek's, I'm quite satisfied that it's real.

The trouble is that to learn it you need loads of people to practice on. You also need to identify who the best "senders" are, because it doesn't work with everybody.

It's real.And it's old, old, old.
13 steps has the bare bones of it.

even the non contact method.

which works in the same way by the way.

If Criss Angel can do that, so can my stupid dog, Bobby.

My dog can do all the "magic" that Mr. Angel can do.

And Bobby doesn´t know how to read.

I´m planning to make a video with my "magic" dog doing all the stuff.

Hope you´ll like it.

Salute.

ive always ended up missing Mindfreak on tv...why use "magic" in inverted commas though? Like his magic is just a trick and everyone else's is real? hmmm....strange....

I must admit I far prefered Mr Brown's take on the effect, but then I seem to be in the minority that is actually enjoying his new series.

I'm not so keen on Mr Angel however, I really, really, really hate the continuity cutaway scenes with odd looking people doing pointless things in order to make it more 'freaky'. For example the old guy dowsing and finding a Mr T style gold chain, giving it to Mr Angel, who then procedes to bury it in a box????

Not my cup of tea and I think that these 'freaky' slots seriously detract from the rest of the show. But then that is only my opinion..
