Hi everyone,

just a quick hello to everyone on the boards. Im living in the North East and a big fan of lots of different magic.

Recent purchases are Deep Astonishment II and today (my birthday!) I got a DVD of 15th Closeup magic competition. It includes a performance by Derren Brown (who doesn't actually win!)

Just discovered this site. enjoying reading thru.

Hi chaps,

thanks for the 'hello's. Was interested in magic as a kid then left it a while. Got more interested over the last 6/7 yrs. Im now 31.

Don't really have big faves amongst the more 'pure magicians'. Not got a very big DVD collection. Really enjoyed the crowd handling of Osterlind. The guy has a nice warmth and delivery about him. Also a big fan of Derren Brown. I really like his style. I do think there is some suggestion and NLP type techniques used in places, but mostly its just a nice magic trick that has been wrapped up to look like something else.

Over the years, pen-thru-note (done with a great handling I saw once) and a simple TT have had most dramatic results. Trying to get slick with a cups and balls routine (wedding present from my wife!) and recently reading thru Annemans - Practical Mental Magic. Some amazing stuff in there considering how long ago it was written. Interesting how Swami gimmicks and things were used back then - but havent fallen into common public knowledge in the last 60 yrs !

What are your current faves of new products ??

I am trying not to get sucked into buying lots, and perfecting few.... but it is so addictive, wanting to be part of some new idea/gimmick/technique

EDIT: just remembered.....my other interesting fact is that I have a first edition Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. Spotted in an old/famous book shop in Alnwick !

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
