Lips is a snap to perform. If you are not getting a solid reaction from it, then it's your presentation that is at fault. (I don't use it, not because I don't like it, but because of the similarity between it and another feature of my closeup act.)
Work on the story line; work long and hard if need be; and you will eventually be able to turn it into a top of the line routine.

Mix this with derren brown's "Zamiel's Rose" from his devils picturebook, and you will have a beautiful ending.

(The card instantly turns into rose petals, this can be found on Pure Effect and a more perfected version in The Devils Picturebook)

A version of this is found in one of the Art of Astonishment books (sorry can't remember which) where the kiss visually appears on the card (you appear to catch it mid flight) and then you pull the lips off the card and put them in your pocket.
