Help with magicians wax!

Postby dragon3003003 » May 1st, '06, 06:19

I just bought the UFO card trick and it only supplied so much of the magicians wax. I went online searching it over magician stores and found that it’s a bit pricey. I know that there are a few kind of wax that could take its place like the dental wax for braces or the wax ring that we use under (within) our toilet to keep the water secure. I would love to know what other kind of inexpensive wax out there and is equivalent or same as the magicians wax.

Thanks in advance.

Rather than buying a number of different types of wax until you find what works and doesn't, why not just buy the magicians wax to begin with? Magictricks.co.uk sell for a couple of pounds and it does last for years as you only need a very small amount for most applications.

You'll probably spend more on experimentation!

is UFO similar to the Hummer card? Just curious :D but anyways magicians wax does vary depending on the make, however i got mine from Magicshop.co.uk, which is pretty decent. Before i first used magicians wax, i used Blutack which in my was better. one of the reasons i thought this was because Blutack is blue ( ) which usualy goes unnoticed against blue-backed bicycle cards.

The thing is that I live in America and althought it only cost me about 3.60 USD it would be more like 6.40 at least with the shipping and handeling. At american these magicians wax cost from 5-10 and i only get so much so buying it there and from america is almost the same price.

If you're in US, then you're lucky. There are many sites which have free shipping to US. You can get your wax cheaper that way. (I use Penguin and MJM Magic). But since some of the wax they've provided isn't branded, so you can't know its quality before buying it.

Help With Magicians Wax.

Postby Allen Tipton » May 2nd, '06, 14:08

:) I have, for many years, always used the Magicians Wax from Myles & Patti's 'Magical Wonders Company' 01923 467956, Watford Herts. It is listed as Catalogue no. DR 189 and costs £2 for a decent supply. It is transparent and is possibly made by DR Robbins & Co. USA
I use in most my IT effects and in my IT lecture.

Nah, UFO is a needle instead of a playing card, and the needle does not spin, it stays sideways, still in mid air. It looks really good but I never REALLY liked the effect, it looked good, it just wasn't as clean as I liked.

:) :) Binary: You really should check things up more thoroughly not try to air a little knowledge. The Needle Thing is done with the PK system. UFO, the Whirling Card or Helicopter card is is a 30 page booklet by Geno Munari & Mark Blais. It is devoted to cards( & other objects) in flight. This is published by the Houdini Magic Shop in Las Vegas and comes complete with all the necessary 'tools' It works well with a credit card. There are about 30 other tricks with the system in the booklet.
WAX In the USA Try for a dealer who sells wax made by D.R.Robbins & Co. In England Clive at Card Connections in Kent, stocks about 8 different kinds.
The whirling or Hummer card is discussed quite thoroughly in the late Billy Mc Comb's book, Mc. Combs Magic-25 years Wiser. Published by Supreme Magic. Billy ( and we shall now miss him terribly) puts in a complete study on the effect, pages 51 to 54 with illustrations.
I first saw him,in the mid 1940's, when I was 13, at the BMS in Birmingham and for years after my mother always refered to that wonderful Irish Medical Student who was so funny. May he rest in peace.

I didn't know that there was a "UFO floating card" available, but "U.F.O. Unidentified Floating Object" has been one of the "hottest-selling tricks for over a decade". You really should check things up more thoroughly not try to air a little knowledge

There are two "UFO" tricks available, both of which are floating things. Its easy to see why the mixup was occurred, and I think you were a bit mean to me :(

I wasn't even wrong, UFO IS a floating needle trick, its also a hovering card trick too though

Help with magicians wax

Postby Allen Tipton » May 8th, '06, 18:44

 Binary. If you read the FIRST line of the posting you see he asks about the UFO CARD trick and not the Jerry Andrus Pin Trick. Also the others refer to the whirling card trick.
It's the 'Nah' that makes you sound like a young know it all.
And the man was asking about wax.
