THE SEARCH FUNCTION

Postby dat8962 » May 6th, '06, 23:27

Is it just me or does anyone else find that the search function is becomming less and less effective at finding what you're looking for?

I'm trying to find a review of Cesaral Melting Point as I'm sure that I've seen something on TM about it but can I find it? NO!

This brings me onto another issue that is maybe related. I was wondering if we should introduce a format for the titles when posting reviews?

There are many that name the trick and then the author, then there are an equal number that start with the authors name and then the name of the trick. The remainder seem to post only the name of the effect.

Does this have any impact on the search?

You're not on your own there mate...

Sometimes I'll put things in the seacrh because I'm positive I've seen them before.
And nothing relevant comes up :(

And then... after scrolling back some pages on a relevant section I find it.. and the seacrh missed it.

I too like the idea of a format for titles....

Although seeing as a lot of things don't have specific author names, I think just the name of the effect would work well. Then people woul;d just have to past the author/inventor (if known) in the text :D

Long live dats ingenuity!

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

You could use Google as the search engine. Something like:

site:.talkmagic.co.uk "Cesaral Melting Point"

And try making sure that you click the button marked "all terms"

I actually think that this should be the default setting (?mods)
