Rose Production

Postby EckoZero » May 9th, '06, 07:21

Right... so as mine and my girlfriends anniversary is coming up in a few months (I'm gonna need time to practice this you see...) I was wondering if there are any practical ways of producing flowers magically. Preferably a single red rose.

Anybody got any links where I might be able to buy such an effect? :D

Thanks in advance guys!

There are certainly things like Torch to Rose but the end result is rather artificial and there's an odour of the substance used for the flames to start with. If you could switch this for a real one somehow it would be more impressive for your purposes. To add some believability to this, I could imagine you lighting the candles on the dinner table with this rather OTT lit torch and doing the change to a rose but that's about all. Unless you're into fire eating as the torch is rather like a small version of a fire eater's torch.

On second thoughts, have the real Rose in a small vase somewhere out of sight, do torch to rose and just as the production of the rose hits home, announce that you'll just find a vase for it and do the switch that way. Vase could be under the table or somewhere like that.

What a fantastic idea :D

Thanks man. Know anywhere offhand that I can get torch to rose?
I really like the idea of switching with a vased rose... nice one!

Or just do a floating rose routine, which ends in exactly what you want.

you use the age old trick of having one up your sleeve.
or if you want to do it sleevless having a bit of invisble thread (or elastic?) holding it to the inside of your arm. little more angular but coul be nice.

...be cheap! give her some rose seeds and say "ahhh you might be dissapointed now, but as you watch the roses grow and bloom; you will be reminded of how our love grows and blossoms..."

ahhh 57p and some spiel...oh and hide the scissors...

http://www.alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Alak ... 0_178.html

has a "how to make" paper rose and how to levitate it...then switch it for the real one? Maybe some kind of use for flash paper to cover the switch?

Thanks for the tips guys :D

I like the floating rose to real rose too... David Copperfield has done it before I'm sure and I really liked it...

Will be looking into these (With the exception of the rose seeds :P Not a keen horticulturalist is my missus...)

Thanks a lot guys :D

PS Luke Jermay has an effect in one of his books but it's geared the other way round, a fresh rose turns to a dead one in a twinkling of an eye. Perhaps not the sort of thing to do on this occasion but something to bear in mind.

Could you not just... reverse it? :D
Make the dead rose into a live one? :D

And yes! I'm sure I could make a dozen red roses appear from nowhere now!

yeah i use flash paper when doing this and I usually hide the rose in my sleeve as I wear jackets most of the time. The flash is bright enough to cover up and is good misdirection. Theonly problem is timing the catch when i launch the rose out of my sleeve with just enough kick to be able to catch it. Im getting an order of flash paper tomorow :D may even try this out lol

I did the Rose from Silk (practical Magic) at the end of my wedding speech, and although not a real rose, it did make an impact and everyone seems to remember me pulling out a stem with no head (I did get some riddicule for this from my audience.. sorry guests) and then making one appear from my pocket hankerchief.

In fact my Wife still has the rose and hasn't actually figured it out yet (but I'm not saying it's really examinable.. it's not going to fool everyone that looks closely) but then again she just popped it into a glass and it's been sat there ever since.
