 What do you want to know (aside from secrets)

They're big, heavy, require tons of special "things" for the most part, are bloody freaking expensive to buy (as well as to store, ship and maintane).

That's why I stopped using them and moved into mentalism...

Yes i had the same problem as Graig. Getting a girl that was capable of performing say 'crystal casket' proved nearly impossible in my town. Transportion costs are high as the effects build up.

If you are seriously interested in big illusions then start buying plan books such as the Paul Osborne books, the Byron Wells tomes, etc.

Such compositions are going to be your best resource for information and experimentation.

I will also advise that you track down the book on being a Magician's Assistant. I believe your best bet would be to contact Dianne Zimmerman via the Magic Castle or Gay Blackstone in that both contributed to it.

um, I am a magicians assistant. I have done crystal coffin as I like to call it. I also do Zig zag [cut in half] Origami, subtrunk, tubbed out, Twister and a few others. I was just wondering if any of you have done them.
or planned on it... Or maybe if there were any other assitants out there.

I've never done anything big and stage like (although blowing up a guitar amp during a gig was a pretty good effect! Shame it wasn't an illusion though :( ) but I'd really like to give Metamorphosis a try with someone.

Obviously then I'd need somewhere to do it... But I love the effect, am familiar with the mechanics of it and would really really love to give it a go :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I have never done either of those, I had/ have the opportunity to learn right now, but decided it was to hard to work with 2 different magicians at the same time. I should learn them or have the Magician I work with build them for us. The Magician works a full time job and has a family, so time to build a new trick is rare. Plus training to become flexable for a new trick is harder than it looks.

The subtrunk we do has a country feel, we do a country swing dance before I get in, and a cow comes out at the end. :D

Have you seen Origami? its one of David Copperfields I belive.

If anyone wants a good one man / woman illusion then i can highly recommend 'so inclined' (Mandy will know it as a different name!) it's the one where you put your feet together and lean forward nearly touching the stage floor. Very cheap (only £599.00) and worth every penny :P

No... Origami was invented by Jim Stinemeyer and first done on stage (I believe) by Doug Henning in the late 70s... in fact, I believe one of the one's David has is the Henning original.

Trust me, there is a reason why those of the "inside" aspects of the industry call him David COPYfield.
