The DL is a user-adaptible mechanical move, and being honest it is well worth exploring your own methods.
My own DL looks or seems nothing at all like any other I've seen, but it just feels right. I suggest you work on the basic mechanics (which are VERY simple) and add your own spice, or just keep going until it feels right.
Then, as time goes on, you'll pick up nuances and subtleties which will allow you to progress and refine your DL.
It's pointless, in my opinon, for you to try and run before you can walk. Start with the basic dynamics of a sleight, learn about the basic execution and when you're comfortable, you'll either get your own method down, or be more receptive to someone elses.
At this stage, I'd not worry about spending any money at all. You KNOW the mechanic, and what it achieves... why not experiment for a while?
