I actually did learn Hypnotism via a book a long long time ago (I was bored one day and managed to find a book in the local library under the occult section).

Unfortunately it only explained how to do the hypnotism that takes ages to do (can't remember what type this was called) so it's no good for stage etc..

I did use it for a while to cure Migranes (with quite a lot of success) and other minor things (nothing serious you understand.. just for friends and family.. I'm not a doctor) and to have fun with some people at parties etc..

I haven't done any for a long time but always wanted to know how to pull it off "quickly" but people like Paul Mckenna etc.. seem to have given it a bad name.

Just my point of view.

If you're looking for faster inductions, look into things like Pattern Interrupts. I think Ericson (spelling) is interesting for things like this. Actually Derren uses the handshake interrupt a lot. It is interrupting an automatic action in a way that confuses the victim and leaves them open to suggestion and instruction.

Actually, it's Erickson  :D.

Good advice. Milton Erickson was a genius, really pionered a lot of this. For more information, check out this site: The Milton H. Erickson Foundation.

Also look at "Monsters and Magical Sticks", a fantastic book. It is by a hypnotherapist (so not directly applicable) but is a gem nonetheless. His definition of hypnosis is very wide and his solutions very creative. Can't recommend it enough.

Say for example someone offers their hand to you, you go to shake it, but then they tie their shoelace instead.
Your brain is used to working on automatic but gets thrown off balance.

You can use things like that to make people open to suggestion, for example, when you shake someones hand quickly move their wrist to their forehead and appear to fall into a trance. Their confused brain will sort of... follow on.

That's a pattern interrupt :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism
