Card DVD Advice Needed

Postby TopHouse » May 11th, '06, 15:39

I recently got 3 of the Ammar's DVD's at a really good price, and to be honest, they are really good, but (there's always a 'but') I'm after a DVD or a book that is completely basic, (I have Royal Road) That shows and demonstrates step by step, the basics, such as flustration count, orion count, palming etc Something that doesn't necessarily show any tricks as such, but gives the foundations.

Anybody know of such a thing?

I don't know 100% but I'd imagine that given it's name, Daryls Encyclopedia Of Card Sleights should just about give you absolutely everything you need :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

If your looking for a good starting DVD take a look at "Born to perform" by OZ Pealman on Penguin magic approx £19.

All the basics are covered well. The only false count covered though is the Elmsley. There are also 4 very good trick that are not out of the reach after a little pratice.
I think its great & it seems to get high praise from anybody that owns it., have a search on it and I doubt you will find a bad word spoken.
hope this helps

I second the Born to Perform. It is a brilliant Dvd for not only learning the basics but you will find yourself going back to it time and time again to just brush up your technique.
Oz pearlman is an excellent teacher too

go with the daryl, the oz dvd is good but its not what you just asked for, it seemes to get recommended here even if the question is " can someone give me advice on sponge balls":)

Daryl DVD's are very good but the there are eight of them making up "The Encyclopedia Of Card Sleights" not just one, each DVD covers alot of good info and if money is not an issue than splash the cash (about £28 each).

Just to throw another name into the hat, there's also "Basic Basic Card Technique" by Richard Kauffman, which does exactly what it says on the tin. No tricks, just sleights. Check it has all the sleights you need.

Not to recommend Born To Perform for sponge balls or anything but in what way is it not what he asked for? It has the different grips, breaks, controls, forces, flourishes, even one-hand top palm. Sounds good to me!
