Hi

My name is simen, and i am from norway. I started to to card magic for about half a year, but i have practiced a lot and starting to get the hang of it.

Derren Browns TV series and his card trick movie was the trigger to get me to start doing card magic. I just love that movie, and have learned a lot of it. I have also read a litle bit in some magic books, but i have learned most of Derren. He is a great guy :)

So, the tricks and moves i can by now are:

- Some moves from the "3 card routine" by Derren Brown
- Mikes Move
- "Oil and Water" by Derren Brown
- "Out of this world" by Derren Brown
- "Doublethink" by Derren Brown
- "Invisible Deal" by Derren Brown
- The twisting arm preformed by David Blaine
- The bent card preformed by David Blaine
- Switch cards in the viewers hand by David Blaine
- The sanwitch trick by David Blaine (oh, so easy :P )
- "Twisting the Aces" by Dai Vernon
- Some other moves i have picked up :)

I love this menthalist things that i have picked up from Derren and experimentet further with. That is what people remember when i leav the table, and that is what get them shocked.

So, i hope my stay here wil be fun and that i can learn from you and share width you guys. Im looking forward to learn more.

A quick question, What types of card is the best? I havent found a fauvorute yet, since i just have been doing this for about a half year.

And, anybody have a tip on a god DVD like Derren Browns "Devils Picturbook"?

Hi and welcome! If you use the Search function you'll see lots of advice and tips about cards, the best type and so on. In fact, most topics have been discussed in recent times so please Search for your questions and if there's anything which isn't answered, just add the question to one of the threads and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

My favorite got to be the "Oil and water" bye the reaction to the audience, but i hate to do the trick. It is so easy to mess it up by grabing to many cards and so at the finish....

I also like the sanwich trick that David Blaine preforme. It is so visual and it actual seem like the card is traveling from the middle of the deck and to the top as you are watching. But i have only done that trick for about a week or somthing :)

The invisible deal is also great if you have worked with the audience for som time, and they actely start to doubt that you are cheating. I ofen combine the invisible deal and the "Bush Peak" that is preformed at Doublethink. First i take the bush peak and preteand that I am reading their minds, then im doing the Invisible Deal to remove any doubts :)

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
