Glueing a lemon

Postby greedoniz » May 12th, '06, 16:49

Hello

Does anyone one know what glue is best for glueing an actual lemon back together in order to place an object inside then reattach so it looks untouched?

When I started in magic I never thought I'd end up glueing fruit

I'd say superglue... oviously not in the fruity bit but on the skin bit inside... if that makes any sense :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Won't the edges of the cut go suspiciously manky if you leave it in the open air?

I'd have thought that a spot of keyhole surgery at one end was more examinable.

I'm hoping that lemon doesnt go brown as in cooking you put leon on other fruit to stop it discolouring. Magic and cooking in one post. is there any start to my talents?

What is it that you're trying to put inside of the lemon?

There are a number of ways to plant a bill, including a signed bill inside of a lemon. If you let us know then I'm sure that we can provide some reference sources.

Having done a year of culinary arts back in high school, I can say that lemons will not brown at the cuts for at least a few hours.

If you dip or coat the lemon with melted paraffin wax (the kind used for jarring and candle making), you can get a thin, practically invisible layer that can be cut through with out much ado.

I would suggest doing a single slice down one side tip to tip, so that you only cut the skin along less than half a circumference. Then place your object in, seal it in with super glue and apply a thin layer of wax just over the cut. That way, when you slice it oven to reveal, you avoid your cut, and hence avoid revealing your preparations.

I hope that made sense.

That's worth knowing.

There's no need to cut a lemon to place bills or other rolled up items inside.

In fact, you can prepare the lemon quite easily for impromptu loads as well.

Bill Malone details an excellent method, in his DVDs actually.

I dont own any effects like this, but i have to ask in case i ever want to. Does it have to be a lemon? We dont really have lemons in our house! Could you do it with other citrus fruit? or an apple? melon?

Thanks, Rich

i think the best fruit for a larger object is an apple as if you hollow out a core you can easily fit a large object (compared to a lemon)

but...

the lemon is better for bills and peices of paper

to glue an apple of lemon together the best glue is rubber cement.

overall

my advice is use a lemon (if you can)

As I said, lemons are perfect, as they have an 'inbuilt' access point, which means you don't have to make any cuts.

Beat me to it!

The reson why I need to load a lemon is that I recently aquired an intercessor (hope I spelt that right) and wish to do a playing card inside a lemon.
If there is a way of easy access into a lemon rather than cutting it I would be extremely grateful if someone could pm me
