4 Card Switch

Postby leighton » May 12th, '06, 19:21

Hello peeps,

I went to a BBQ a few days ago tooled up with cards, raven, neo-ring, TT etc, and after a few drinks I was off, I started with some card tricks then threw in a little TT routine of about 5 tricks, did a bit of mentalism and watch stopping then went back to cards for a few more tricks and slights. It went really well and changing the types of tricks every 3 or 4 helped me to keep a bit of a flow going, needless to say, I am getting more confident with my magic. So now I am looking to get a bit more advanced.

I am trying to find a good method for switching 4 cards with a different set of 4 cards infront of the specy. Idealy, I would like to place the 4 cards on the table face up then turn them face down, patter a bit the when I turn them face up again they have all changed! However any way I can just switch them would be great.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

i've said it befor and i'll say it again. misdirection. i did a packet switch on someone last week by literally pointing to their side and when they looked a just casually swapped them.
although yes, it is possible to do it right under someones nose, but I'm (not so good) at that

There is a useful way of changing four cards for another four cards by counting on the DGP vol.1. Its used in the Satisfaction Guaranteed trick which i love and use all of the time. The only downside though is that it is done on top of the deck. If you could perform it and then lay the cards down it would work. Hope that helps.

Daniel Garcia Project volume one. Sorry about that! You should definitely check it out, the stuff on there is great, but you have to work at it, its not easy!

There are a number of packet switching techniques, my personal favourite being the veeser concept. You can find information in Card College vol. 4 as well as Counts, Cuts, Moves & Subtlety.

Hey, there is quite a good switch for a number of cards which I will try really hard to explain! Make sure you have a deck in hand - will be easier to do than imagine!

(If this considered exposure then delete it by all means).

While the four cards are on the table get a break under the top four cards of the deck. Then pick up the four from the table and hold them neatly between the thumb and first finger of your right hand. Then, on the off-beat, bring your hands together placing the cards in your right hand on top of the deck in your left. Place them a little to the left of the deck, so they are held in place, pinched between the left edge of the deck and the skin at the base of the thumb. Then, using the middle finger and thumb of the right hand, strip out the four cards above the break and relax back. Casusally gesture a bit with the cards (obviously only showing the backs), and without mentioning it just toss them back on the table.
Even you can talk for just 15 seconds after the move is done you can even get away with saying 'it is important that you notice at no point do I touch the cards'. Chances are they will have forgotten the off-beat move (which should be done in less than a second), and will believe they have been left on the table throughout.

Its bold but if there is some kind of revelation before with the four cards then the off beat will exist quite naturally. Otherwise you will have to create one with your manner and voice. If the move is done nearly instantly and while you are gesturing with your hands it will be completely unnoticed.

Hope that helps. Mark

One ofmy favourites I found in "Card Stunts with Gregory Wilson" dvd. He has the switches on the bottom of the pack. Buckle the cards with your left hand (if you are right handed). Then, pick up the 4 cards on the table with your right, place them on top, and take the bottom cards with it. This looks like you are "transferring the deck to get it out of the way" ;)

Love

I cant see exposure there! only different techniques!

You have to know the Ghost Deck and Gaff Deck to understand where I am coming from:

I am using the Ghost deck for this effect and I wanted to change the 4 kings during a story about burying them alive, blah blah, and when they are exhumed you see the skull kings in their place... quite eirie I think...

I am finding the pass is working ok for this effect, but if anyone does this kind of effect please help me improve it!
