Cost

£24.99

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Overall I would rate the routines taught within this DVD as being a level 3.

- It's a steal rated as a 3 as it requires a steal and a palm
- 3 way cut (Mike Skinner) if you can do the Charlier then it's a 2
- Boxed I would rate as a 2
- Simplex signed Aces to pocket teaches a multiple shift and requires various other controls (all taught) and a gimmicked jacket, rated as being a 3
- Impromptu chop cup rated as 2
- Simplex signed card in sealed envelope, forced card palm used, rated as a 3
- Ring in sealed envelope rated as a 2
- Trade show SF7 (Storm Force 7) rated as 2, after set up it's maily presentation as it self works other than the taught pass

Review

As an ownder of Sanderson's Corporate Closeup DVD as soon as I saw this DVD being advertised I ordered it straight away.

This is a quality produced DVD with almost two hours of footage that’s divided into two parts. The first part concentrates on a number of new routines that are taught in detail and Sanderson is a very good teacher too! You not only get the routines but there are a good number of sleights taught as part of the teachings.

The routines are very commercial and although they will not all be to everyone’s liking I’m sure that everyone will find something to suit. The opener, ‘It’s a steal’ is a very visual effect that’s not too difficult to master. The 3 way cut also looks flashy and is part of this routine.

Boxer is ingenious and easy to set up with the clear instructions on how to make the gimmicks.

Simplex signed Aces wasn’t to my liking but seeing how it’s done reveals a very nice way of gimmicking a jacket.

The impromptu chop cup is virtually the same as rapid fire chop cup as shown on the Corporate Close up DVD with the exception that it uses an un-gimmicked cardboard cup (can use polystyrene) and a coffee creamer (and then two loads). This is all sleight of hand and not difficult to learn but very visual. Rapid fire is one of my most used routines when table hopping or performing walk-around magic as it’s ALWAYS very popular and it was worth the price of the previous DVD just for this in my opinion.

Signed card to sealed envelope was not for me either and uses a long card which can be readily ordered from numerous suppliers but the Ring in sealed envelope that uses the same principle is very neat indeed.

Finally, to end of the first part there’s a customised version of Storm Force 7 which opens up lots of possibilities and I can see why it’s very commercial, although I don’t personally like the trick too much myself.

Onto part two, the Business section.

This part is more of a 40 minute lecture from Sanderson that is stuffed full of examples and ideas for selling your magical services. For anyone looking for ideas on how to start out and how to approach and then work tables, this DVD may be of great interest to you. Overall, the pitch tells you how to run a business as a magician from answering enquiries onwards.

Overall

9/10

For the price and the content of this DVD you can’t go wrong

yes it was a good dvd but the tricks were very simple and wouldn't appeal to hardcore magicians.

in the other hand the business advice and how to approach a table was priceless

overall it though it would be better

8/10

I really like this DVD it is full of real workers. Tricks don't need to be flash when you are working within the corporate sector.

That's perhaps true but then hardcore magic doesn't always fit in as commercial magic.

I do agree with you that these tricks are not too difficult which gives you the advantage of having a very high success rate which is an important consideration for a working magician.

I do feel that sometimes the hardcore magic is aim to impress other magicians whilst the laypeople often don't get the full impact as they don't understand the technical difficulty of the sleights involved.

I'm reminded of the old 'KISS' saying of 'keep it simple stupid'.

Could not agree more with the comment about hardcore magic appealing more to magicians. I try and learn some quite complex handling and compicated effects, that are more for my own satisfaction more than anything. And I think with commericial stuff, you really want stuff that will blow laypeople away.

Been thinking about getting this DVD for a while now, and after this review I think I will get it. Might have to wait till payday though. (Damn CUPS!) Nice review though DAT. Cheers

I had difficulty playing on the DVD attached to the TV but no problems on the DVD in my PC.

Don't get me wrong about the hardcore magic though  We all need to work out harder and harder with our magic in order to improve.

Sorry to give that impression - it was an opinion.

To expand, my view is that much of what is termed 'hardcore' is card based and it would perhaps be best for a skilled cardie to provide some guidance here.

However, try looking here at the Underground Collective as a start.

krazy - read through the reviews. Go through the review index (although it is a little out of date), do some searches.

Good recommendations for hardcore card magic...

Anything by Jerry Sadowitz. "Cards on the Table" is my current project, or as an alternative Paul Gordon books are always a challenge. (Sometimes a little too much of a challenge!)

I only really persue this harder stuff so when I perform something at my club, fellow members dont say "Oh yes, Ive seen that, its on "Easy to Master, Self-working, Amazing automatic card Extravaganza Vol. 67"

I always get a satisfaction from performing an effect, and having fellow members come up to me in the bar and say. "No really, how did you do that?"

"Hardcore magic" isn´t needed at all in the real world. It's been years since i have learned a new trick. For close-up work, all you need are 6 decent tricks and 6 killer presentations to go with them.

I have 4 tricks i allways do, and 2 i do now and then.

Sponge balls
Doc Dailys Last Trick
Ring and string
and my own take on Paperclipped

The ocational tricks are

Ambitious card
51 cards to pocket

Thats all I need. The presentations have become "hardcore" over the years, but still I find new and better things to say. The tricks are (well.... most of them) among the first I ever learned. None of them are hard to do, and my audience really doesn´t care if they are.

In the magic club we don't showoff with tricks anymore - we talk about marketing, presentation, booking, pricing etc. - infinetly more interesting.

Remember - the magic is in the presentation
