I've just started working on this, so any constructive criticism is very welcome. http://media.putfile.com/nothing-to-see-here

(yeah I know I'm sort of hypnotised by the camera a bit, - let's just pretend that's part of the trick :))

I'm afraid the object isn't as visible as I'd like on this scaled down video. I started off with just a metal one, but it was practically invisible anyway after scaling down the video for web. I coloured it in with a black permanent marker - hopefully it shows up a bit better.

{edit} if you have the option on your browser/viewer, might be best to set the zoom to 200% or so...{/edit}

hehe, thanks. I did have a bigger plastic thimble that was intended for the purpose (ie. more visible, and chunkier), but I lost it in a pub - obviously not visible enough :D.

It's probably best that I was inaudible, as I was just talking rubbish. I'm sure there was proper sound on there, but MS movie maker seems to have wisely censored me. Sadly it does seem to be possible to make out at least some of it with the volume turned up.

At some stage I'll probably try to put together a proper routine with thimbles

I don't think what you were saying was rubbish (well it wouldn't be from a layman's point of view) I thought your patter added to the trick (we have to many silent magicians). Your handling was pretty smooth. If I had to critisize anything I would say to you to just make sure that when you drop your hands it doesn't seem forced. Just note how you would drop your hands when you don't have a guilty conscience.

So keep up the good work and I will be looking forward to seeing your routine.

Yeah, I think you're right. Looking at it again those hands do look a bit guilty = more practice required.

It's always hard to start with finding the correct balance between totally free movement and avoiding flashing. I imagine when I'm more used to handling thimbles it will improve.

The other thing I'm not completely happy with is the hand position during the production. It looks unnatural to hold it out there, but it would be very hard to hold it more naturally. I suppose the patter is completely necessary at that point to explain what the hand is doing.

Thanks for your input.
