Coin In Bottle

Postby SlipperyPenguin » May 15th, '06, 10:13

Hi everyone..

I've been doing the Coin in Soda Can thing for a while and love it because it's totally impromtu, no gimmicks.. just borrow and go.

I'm now looking for something similar for a coin in bottle. I've seen some demos of stuff and read the reviews here but all of them seem to use setup bottles. I'm wondering if there is a really visual coin in bottle (I saw Dynamo do one on his show (Estate Of Mind) that was very visual.. which is what I want but I would ideally like to be able to use any bottle (non-gimmicked and borrowed (although the use of any other gimmick is acceptable).

Does any such thing exist and if so what is it called and where is it available.

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help

Slippery

The gimmick you're looking for is one widely known throughout the magic community. It is the one dynamo used, and can be done with any bottle. Check it out here-http://www.magicbox.uk.com/exec.php/product/ProductDetail/00096/45/

I think thats exactly what you want :D

While this version is not completely impromptu - it is an excellent effect and incredibly visual, one I use all the time and have received some outstanding reactions. It does utilise a gimmick, but carry it on you at all times and you are always good to go. Borrow a coin, borrow a bottle and BAM the coin visually penetrates the bottle and is too big to fall out the neck.

In case you wanted some alternatives:

Kevin Parker has an effect called "Passing Thru" The demo shows a highly visual and beautiful penetration. I believe this does use a gimmick also but set up is simple. http://www.kevinparkerproductions.com/

One other coin through bottle effect is from Richard Osterlind's Mind Mysteries Volume 4 - a signed coin penetrates a glass coke bottle, the bottle has to be smashed to remove their signed coin.

Good luck.

I might have to get Mind Mysteries volume 4, or maybe the whole set if its any good? That is the exact effect that i would like to do! Is it easy to do? And its really their signature on their coin inside their borrowed bottle? Sounds too good to be true!

I saw Dynamos show too, does anyone know where to get that twisting the bottle illusion? Ive looked on the net but cant find it anwhere.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

There's also "bottled up inside", a DVD which I'm about to put on my site.

Looks good, I will have to write up more, as it only arrived this morning.

Kind of impromptu, with a borrowed bottle.

I don't own the DVD so I can't comment; I was just putting another option forward. But from what I gather it is an un-gimmicked coin, it does end up inside and the bottle needs to be smashed to retrieve the coin. The reviews I have read regarding the set are very good and it is something that I am personally thinking about getting.

In regards to the bottle twisting effect, I didn’t see the Dynamo programme but there is a new effect out that uses a gimmick to perform many different effects with beer bottles. ‘Glass Mirage’ by Alex Lourido. There are a few preview videos out there and it looks promising. Not sure if it is the effect being discussed or not?

Just to through a few more options into the mix regarding coin through bottle effects, I would not recommend Abyss. For me, it is unpractical and doesn’t work with any UK coins.

For impromptu coin through glass effects, Daniel Garcia's ‘Quarters’ is probably the best I have come across to date although the three phase routine incorporates the muscle pass, one of the most difficult coin sleights. Geir Bratlie's ‘Infusion’, while receiving very mixed reviews can be a very astounding, impromptu miracle when performed correctly.

Plenty to ponder, hope this information helps.

The previous posts do show a lot of effects and ideas using bottles, however to clear things up about the tricks dynamo used-

Bottle Twister does look great. Thanks for posting that. Bit expensive but impressive nevertheless.

I am going to get this effect but I have a question about Coin in Bottle which would be classed as exposure. Could someone who has this PM me please?

Thanks

It's pretty good, I actually used it (for a laugh, not in performance) last night and wasn't sussed out. In fact, I got a good result.

The performance is very simple, and very convincing.

And the fact that you get two effects for the price of one (finger ring, borrowed, and coin-in-bottle) is great. Both effects use different methods, and work well together!

(I did 'coin to bottle' first, then ring to bottle).

BUI gets my vote, but I make no guarantees that anyone else will like it, as it's presentation lacks the 'modern fizz' (I am talking about the presentation of the DVD, not the effect)

Has anyone got any experience of the signed coin penetration here: www.kzmagic.com? Looks good...

the first suggestion offered is the way to go, no the coin isnt signed but it really doesnt matter, much as i love the mind mysteries series (first 4), the coin in bottle there is most definitely not impromptu, its a LOT of preperation and its really not even as good let alone better than the other way.
