Best book for rope escapes?

Postby IAIN » May 16th, '06, 14:49

Ok, i've got an effect im working on called The Tarot Card Murders...or something like that at least...where i tell the story of my great-grandfather was almost a murder victim, he waskidnapped by a serial killer who was being hunted by the police blah blah blah....

the killer had slaughtered 21 innocents, leaving one of the major arcana in their mouths...

my great grand-father managed to escape though; and identify him to the police who managed to catch him. He was stripped and searched and safely locked away...

but the strange thing was, the next morning they opened his cell door - only to find him face down in his own blood with his throat slit and the final card (the death card) in his mouth...no one knowing why he did what he did, nor how he managed to slit his own throat when he was throughly searched...

now, i've got my cut-throat razor, and im currently writing the full script...but i know nothing about rope escapes...the one I'm using at the moment is in a Paul Curry book...

It'll end in me with my throat slit and the death card in my mouth with a suitable message written on it...but all whilst my hands are bound...

all im asking for is what would be the best book/dvd to learn about fake knots/escapes and so forth please?

Though i might cheat and use handcuffs instead...dunno yet...its just an idea at the moment...

cheers for any comments...even if its "shut up"...

i'll be in the chair from start to finish, ask a spec to secure me with my hands behind me 'n the chair...my cut throat razor on the table and a lit candle whilst im telling the story...

i'll blow out the candle, ask the spirit to come forth and the audience will hear me scream, lights will go on, i'll be neck back, blood dripping, card in gob...

the only other problem i'll have is how to carry on! metaphysically anomolies no doubt...

the rope tie i use at the moment if from a fake seance where hands are tied behind the back yet objects float and so on...

The Prime Minister is coming! DIVE! DIVE! DIVE!

Sounds great!!!!

Nice one old man. A book I'd recommend is Houdini on Magic. Where the man himself details his rope escapes and findings from uncovering fake seances.. Available from Amazon amongst other places. :)

A really good book for loads of knots is 'Self Working Rope Magic' by Karl Fulves (ISBN 0-486-26541-2) and it costs around £7. You'll be spoilt for choice with loads of knots and loads of illustrations.

I bought mine from House of Magic last year.

Very few DVD's teach you knots unless they are part of a routine. I'd say that Flips rope DVD is about the best for knot content but I'm not sure if you'll find something on this DVD that will suit your needs and you're looking at around £27 to boot.
