Messiah vanish

Postby ian69 » May 17th, '06, 20:43

I've been playing with the Messiah vanish but found it a little weak, as the fantastic vanish is hindered by the fact that you have to hold your arm still in an odd position for quite a while afterwards. So instead of a vanish I've been using it as a change. Have a pound coin or whatever in classic palm or finger palm on the little finger (works best for me) and push a penny "into" the hand. Open the pushing "fingers" hand first to show empty, then open the closed "target" hand to reveal the pound coin, dropping it into your other hand. Hand it over and ask if they can see the join or hinge. Use the off beat to bring the perched coin down and away.

If you have tricky spoectators, change the pound into a penny!

Sounds interesting. I'd be cautious about suggesting the idea of gimmicked coins though. I think most people generally accept coins as real, and personally I'd prefer it to be kept that way. How about just "that's wierd, I usually get a 50p. Check it out" or something like that (?)

Nice idea. I don't have any gimmicked coins so it's not a prob for me but I see what you're saying.

The thing is, I need them to focus on it intently enough that I can remove the penny from the back of my hand. Looking for a gimmick can do that.

Another idea might be to get them to check the date on it, or mark it in some way so you can then do another effect. Obviously you ditch while they are marking/checking

With practice and no...erm... "gimmick" (though it isn't - Sankey teaches the vanish and you use this) - anyway without that and a bit of pracice a fair amount of movement can be had I find.

Cheers,
