yes. That was my first impression too. My performing persona is totally different to Jay's, so the first job was to bring the presentation in-line with my style and tempo. Having seen Jays presentation I considered it a 'middle of the set' trick. BUT I WAS SO SO WRONG
Try it out at your next few gigs and I'm sure you will be just as pleased as I was. I think ( although I'm only guessing ) that as a magcian I thought the impact of the effect was coming from the moment that the pictures change places. But i am begining to think that this is not the case.
The magicial event is not really the transposition, which in itself acts as a good smaller climax, but rather in the way the spectators backtrack over the effect. The strongest 'magicial event' is the fact that their freely choosen card was nailed to a table BEFORE they picked it and they have a photo of it as hard evidence. As they backtrack through the effect, the smaller climax of the transposition 'stalls' them as they have to work that out too, on their path backwards. The smaller climax then justs adds the the larger one.
On the otherhand i could just be reading too much into this, and it's just a great effect that spectators react to.
Regarding the price, yes it would be nice if it were cheaper, but having said that, how many dvd's have we all brought for £25-£30 which contain lots of tricks, but we don't perform any of them! You know that feeling, when you watch a magic DVD and actually find a GREAT trick that you learn and use all the time for many years? It's often sadly a rare event. For the effects that I actually USE, the price really does not matter at the end of the day. Every trick for sale is over priced if you buy it but never use it!
(I paid a small fortune for an eletronic clipboard for mind reading. It gets a great reaction, works well and I use it quite often. But I get the same amount of performing time and a great reaction from this Jay Sankey trick too. Hmmm.... Which one was the smartest purchase?....)
Hope this helps
Best wishes and good luck with your magic!
