The Ego change becomes a kinda knack once you get the hang of it. I can do it no problem with spectators. The angle is only an issue from the right. But I tend to tilt my hand down slightly so that the angle isn't too much of a problem. Also, the sound for the Ego Change has NEVER been a problem for me even though many magicians complain about the sound it makes. The spectators won't know what happened even with the sound.
But if you want tips on how to make it soundless and smooth, try to keep the right hand as low as possible, even touching the cards, and do the change slowly. The right hand can give cover for the whole card for a split second, giving just enough time for the left hand to do the change. Think about the movement of the card and try to match your right hand so that it covers the card as it moves.
