Chemical card??

Postby TylerD » May 21st, '06, 03:45

Ok Im not sure how to put this because I dont know what the hell it is or what im exactly talking about haha so I was hoping some of you guys would know. Now im sure most of you magicians have seen David Blaine froze in time and if you havent then you should lol. Anyway he does a trick to the basketball players when he tell them to pick a card and put it back in the deck. It then rises to the top and he terrors the cards and it lights on fire.

I know how everything is done in this trick, except I want to know what the chemical is called to make the card light on fire. I know its not a hot card. It cant be. Ive seen hot cards used before. So Im thinking there is a type of chemical on the card that starts it on fire when it is torn. Does anyone know what it is called or any sources where I can find this????

Please and thank you.....Your buddy magician Tyler :D:D:D:D:D

I dont think so. Its not a hot card. Ive seen those performed before and its not the same. He shows the card from every angle possible. But who knows. Im still not 100% sure.

Aren't there certain chemicals that ignite on contact with air? Phosphorus?

I guess a sealed packet inside the card is one way. A bit dangerous though.

Er...isn't there a simpler solution? Palm something, show card, light card with palmed something.

Hmm ... i dont think that'll work Kati ... cards just don't burn that easy ... you need somthing really hot burning that'll ignite easy.

He ment flash paper. For that to go off there needs to be an ignition system. Its definately some chemical. Theres a dude at my magic club who does a lot of chemical magic i'll have to ask him next month

I would love to perform this trick. Usually I aint into these fancy type things. Just a deck of cards and thats it haha. But this would get such a good reaction. I think I might just go to Davids house and ask him lol, and if he doesnt tell me ill cry till he does. YAY :D

Sir Rawlins said "you need somthing really hot burning that'll ignite easy"

I have't seen the effect but I think you would have to use flash paper or flash wool. Add to that a simple ignighting device and you could do what the hell you wanted with the original card, no one would see what you did ??
