Does anyone still do the oldschool magic

Postby RekwiamDream » May 25th, '06, 20:17

I mean the pulling the rabbit out of the hat and the never ending scarf tricks and the cane into flowers

i rmember when i was a kid, my mother would buy me magician sets and those were the tricks on it mainly; of course not a rabbit but a toy one and stuff...

now that I'm back into magic, i see that I'm not really into that style of performing anymore, is anyone?

That style of performance seems to have vanished a bit in this modern day and age :).

I remember that at the Ipswich Convention last year there was a magician called Scott Penrose who performed 'classical' magic with a dove act. He was the star of the convention for me, a really brilliant magician.

You do sometimes see it in 'club land' but not as much as you used to.

It's a shame because it can be excellent. When I went to a "meet the magic circle" evenining there was a guy called Richard Sanders who did a stage act dressed in tails etc ('classical' look) he didn't speak but it was all to music he did cig magic, cane, silks and I thought he was excellent.

when i first started performing i did alot of those, rabbit from hat, coin from ear, the many hanky tricks, the wand/cane to flowers. And i still do a few when i do kids parties, which for me is very rare. I have focused on cards and escape for the last 7 years, and i like them. but the classics are just as good.
