KIDS KARDS

Postby dat8962 » Jun 4th, '06, 00:12

This is one of my personal favourites and a routine that I often open with when table hopping.

The patter is light hearted and amusing at the same time and always gets the more mature audience sat up and paying attention.

This is another recording to eventually go onto my web site and onto a promo DVD so please look at it from a lay persons persepective as I know that it won't necessarily appeal to may of you die hard cardies

Comments as always are welcome and I'm particulalry interested to know if you think that the titles work in building up the story, or do they distract from the overall effect of the video?

I enjoyed that video. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think the titles affected much of the overall effect.

I think titles worked much better than having you say it in this routine.

But of course, you mentioned that you table hop with this, so you'll pretty much have to say it I believe. Still pretty effective but I think the titles would work better still.

I liked it. :)

About titles, they're ok, anyway I think you should use them only before starting the routine...
the ones "but being a magician...." "just watch" split your video in two, they not allow me to see what your hands are doing in the whole video...
Since the "magic" happens only in the 2nd half, there's no use in thinking you changed deck, anyway I think those 2 titles make your effect lose something...

Anyway, very nice indeed.

PS: I apologize for my english
PPS: I love Satriani 8)

Dat, like the story you have given the trick. I have used the "I got a group of kids to make me a set of cards" but I think your story gave it a personal touch. Not dont the trick for quite a while but still like it as it is very colourful.

Can i ask does one of the cards have a house on it? In a magic shop in Torquay i was shown this trick [i think] where one of the cards had a house on it. He fanned out the kids cards and flicked them up [like moving them up and down except fast] and they changed to regular cards, front and back. Is this the same?

This is the same Delude and yes, the 4 of diamonds is the card with the house on it.

A great trick, but I didn't like the fact you spread them on the table, from there it was obvious (to me at least) that I wasn't seeing a full deck of cards, similar to when you spread an ID. Overall though a fantastic trick with a great story.

Dave, I really enjoyed it! What can I say? Your performance was smooth but not flashy, which I think is important for this trick. I loved the patter, the soundtrack, everything worked really well together!

I think having this on your website as one of your adverts is a great idea! I believe this routine would add a more personal touch to your work; the engaging patter will make your clients and potential clients warm to you as a person and not just as a performer - which I think is very important.

Regarding the subtitles:
Dave, I would have to disagree with The_Elf as you are using this video as an advert and not to enter into a competition that is to be judged by a board of magicians. I think the subtitles are necessary for this trick and I would definitely leave them in there. The breaking up of the performance should not make the viewer suspicious of a deck switch as you already had visually transformed the deck the first time. So in conclusion I believe the subtitles are an integral part of this effect and are not a distraction. They are not overly wordy (like some of my posts ), they are concise and yet very effective into making your performance into more than just a trick, but a real piece of magical entertainment!
