The Performance of Close-Up Magic by Eugene Burger

Around £30

4
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

But that's because the comments involve study the few effects within are probably a 3.

Review

This is an awsome book!!! I've only read it once with exams but after they're out the way Iu'll read it a few more times. It has humorous, serious, thought provoking and many other such things within!

I was told by Sam Cross that this book would make me a better magician. It has. It is aimed at Close-Up magicians but there are some useful things in for others - but perhaps if you are not a close up magician what you would get out of this book is not worth £30. BUT if 30% of your performance is close-up I'd say it's worth the money if you only do/mainly do close up I might even say it's neccessary - although I don't like it when magicians say that.

This book is theoretical you should be serious about close up magic to buy this but it's awsome.

Some of the chapter's that I thought were particularly good were:

The Main road
What is Close-Up Magic?
Hands.
Uncle Geek
Negative Thought
Stealing

And my favourite effect: Rosini's Double Reverse.

There are other great chapters in this book too. The above is a mere selection.

I wouldn't like to say this book has advice in it as Burger stresses that is not what he is doing - it is more his thoughts.

I foundd it an inspiring book and well worth a read.

There are some humerous cartoons in it which not only made me laugh but also are good ways of conveying the point being made.

Overall

Some may not like the fact that there are only about 4 tricks in the book but that's not what it's about.

Value for Money: 10/10
Overall: 9.8/10 - nothing's perfect.

I'll end this review with Sam C's words to me, "If you're not inspired by this book, I'll eat my copy and refund the money for yours!"

(I won't refund your books because I have no money!!!)

Cheers,
