A trick that i dont know what itsa called but please help

Postby cordenadam » Jun 13th, '06, 17:51

There is a trick that i think dai vernon performs, when he writes a prediction on a piece of paper then lets the spectator shuffle cards etc and then pick one and that card matches the prediction. Does anyone know what it is called and where i can learn it.

Thanks in Advance

I have one that does this called pre deck ability (I wrote a review on it I think)

goes along the lines of half deck up one way, half deck up other way, spectator shuffles first prediction is something like 14 of the cards will be face up, you take those out shuffle some more and next prediction is 12 of the cards will be red, take them out next prediction is all cards are clubs, you find one spade and then the last predicition is "apart from the ace of spades"

Is that the one?

Um. This is almost certainly done with one of the most basic moves in card magic. If the spectator shuffles it uses a more advanced move or a gimmick. Mods: can I use the word f****?

No, not that word. The other f-word. Ahem. Shut UP. :p

The effect your thinking of is almost certainly The Trick That Cannot Be Explained by Dai Vernon. You can find a (meta-)explanation in More Inner Secrets of Card Magic by Lewis Ganson. Warning this effect is not for the beginner, or the intermediate card worker for that matter.

Really? In miraskill the spectator doesn't select a card, you don't predict the selected card, and as far as I know Vernons name has never been attached to the effect. Good of you to point out where to learn it too.
