all i'll say is then is to maybe jot down:

:?: what sort of look you're going for/how you'd like to be percieved
:?: how your logo will be used/where it would appear (logos can look very different once they've been shrunk down and used as a letter head for example, photocopied and so on)
:?: work out what is most important for you too - the visual impact and so on, because basically, you are selling yourself and the service so your contact details would probably be far more important than anything else
:?: keep it simple
:?: relevance to your job

might well be the "suck eggs" scenario...but its well worth having a little think before you commit to anything... :)

A quick lunchtime special, based on your 'line of work'.

My own self-brief after analysis of your comments:
• Businesslike
• Contemporary
• Clean
• Echoes of 'bricks & mortar' without being over-stated
• Flexible
• Conveys a graphic device which can be used independently of logotype
• Can be used in all manner of media... also adaptible simply to black and white for various reasons
• Concise, robust and has a feeling that 'you've dealt with Elgin before'—instant credibility
• Professional
• Reliable

wow

You should be a graphic designer!

*oh wait, you are :P*

I must say that that logo does look really really nice to me and I'm definitely not a surveyor. Nice job Seige!

I wouldn't recommend it.

Adding Limited isn't a necessity, so long as your company name is mentioned in FULL on your letterheading.

We never ugly a logo by adding Ltd, Inc or whatever—it's not necessary.

The only place you NEED to be using the name in full is on a letterhead, along with company reg no. etc.

So, in short...

No... I won't put Limited on it ;)
